About You
The Spring week Finance for Non Finance was excellent. It provided me with great insight regarding investment banking, markets, risk management and more specifically what it meant to work at JP Morgan. We received training to improve our knowledge in finance and our presentation skills which were great with regards to applying for a summer internship.
The team responsible for the spring week was very welcoming and kind throughout the entire week. More generally though, all members of the firm that I met were happy to spare some of their free time to answer our questions and showed us through their actions and words that we were valued.
Most of our days consisted of training lessons and programmes. We also had multiple networking events which were particularly useful to further our knowledge of the various opportunities the firm has to offer. All of this allowed us to feel well guided and supported throughout the week which was great!
Being a History and Politics student, the information I received concerning financial markets and investment banking will not assist me in my studies. It will however, be immensely useful when I will be applying for a summer internship as I know have valuable knowledge that will surely give me a head start compared to other non-finance students.
The Company
The spring week programme was seamless. Every day was packed with great activities and each one was seamlessly followed by the next. I never felt like I was wasting my time; if anything the days went by very fast thanks to excellent organisation even though we were at the firm from 8am to 6pm (on average).
The general atmosphere was surprisingly great! One would not expect that such a professional group of people could at the same time be extremely fun to be with. While the days were more serious, the coffee and lunch breaks as well as networking events were great moments that really contributed to making the atmosphere even more enjoyable.
The firm truly did everything it could to improve our personal skills and development in such a short period of time. We had financial training, presentation skills training as well as activities to improve our networking skills. Overall, I do not think the firm could have done much more for us in a week.
The insight week helped me discover the various roles that were available at the bank. I knew little if anything regarding the functioning of an investment bank and thanks to the training and more importantly the networking events, I now feel that I understand more what it would be like to have a full time role with the firm.
I did not know much about JP Morgan before joining the spring week programme. On the very first day, we received a compliance presentation, as well as a philanthropy overview. From the start I knew that JP Morgan was dedicated to integrity and to volunteering which, I believes says plenty about the firm's culture.
The content of the day was incredibly helpful. I know have a more precise idea of what roles I would be interested in if I were to work at the firm or at any other investment bank. I was previously skeptical about the banking industry as a whole, but am know seriously considering it as a future career.
Everything Else
JP Morgan reimbursed all my expenses and provided accommodation for me.
The spring week organisers had set up four different networking events in five days which was very impressive. I got to meet employees from different backgrounds, with different roles and responsibilities and that was possible one of the most useful aspects of the programme. I do not see how we could have had more of these events.
The networking events were great and very insightful; they allowed me to ask all the questions that were on my mind and receive various answers depending on who I was talking to. The events truly allowed me to discover the firm and its culture as well as the various roles that would be available to me if I were to work there.
During the networking events I managed to ask employees if they were involved in activities outside of work.
I would definitely recommend this spring week programme to a friend. It allowed me to discover JP Morgan as a firm and introduced me to finance, banking and markets which I knew little about previously. Overall, my experience there was great and I am looking forward to applying for a summer internship soon.
