The Role
My placement gave me a lot of responsibility - it was really enjoyable but of course, like any job, had its stressful moments!
My team always made me feel like a valued member of the team, as opposed to just an "intern".
My immediate manager always made time to offer me support and guidance, no matter how busy they were or how heavy the workload.
My role seldom left me with time to spare - some people may not enjoy this, but it was a really good experience for me and meant I was constantly learning. Having a busy role definitely helped me get the most out of my placement, and I was never expected to work out of hours, so I was more than happy with being busy.
At the beginning, I felt like I had too much responsibility but eventually, as I got more comfortable in my role, I began to enjoy knowing that my work was exactly that - my work. Working in a recruitment environment meant there was a lot of pressure to get the work done properly, as I would be dealing with external candidates and internal clients - definitely a lot more responsibility than I anticipated!
The Company
There were times when the office had a fairly pressuring atmosphere, especially on the approach up to Christmas. Other than this, the the atmosphere was always well balanced - not too stressful and not too relaxed that it makes you unproductive. There are areas of the office that are much more "serious" and others which are fun, so it's just about finding where to work that is best for you!
The scheme is really well-established so has a structure in place. You always know next steps and, if you don't, you always know who to ask!
IBM have an extensive amount of training you can take part in! There's online training for almost anything, so you can delve into whatever you want, regardless of whether it's out of the scope of your job role.

IBM has a really well-established graduate scheme and the prospects are really good. A lot of interns return as graduates, which really speaks for itself!
The Culture
Working in London means prices are often dear. But, IBM have an internal discount scheme and you can also get local discount cards (for free) so both help a lot when eating out. A lot of local restaurants offer IBM discount if you bring your work badge too, so there are a lot of means to help reduce prices!
