The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my time working for IBM ( International business machines). Before my placement year I had no experience in the 9-5 office life and was very nervous. Looking back now I have progressed so much and exceed in skills I never thought I would have - been a great year
although I was just an intern and my job role featured the word junior, I was never treated like one. the team I worked on made a conscious effort to treat me the same as someone that had been here for a long amount of time and they were grateful for the work I did
I was always given constant support from my managers and supervisors over the year and throughout. they continued to help me with any questions I had and if I needed them I know that I would feel comfortable enough to go to them with an issue I may have .
on a daily basis I had a range of jobs and tasks to take on. I was constantly doing work but it never got to much . it was a good balance of having enough to do to not be bored in the day but also not be snowed under
I was given a lot of responsibility throughout my placement year . my role was a P M so therefore I was often in charge of mini projects . I also managed lots of charity events that I lead to large groups of people that I had responsibility for .
the skills I have developed will definitely help me with my degree and beyond . I have become a lot more confident and enjoy speaking to new people . I am also now have new skills in public speaking and excel skills as well as new knowledge on my industry
The Company
I was very lucky as my office atmosphere was great . most people were under the age of 3 0 and there were many socials and events that I could get involved in . everyone was very caring and interested in how you were getting on which was nice .
the placement was very well set up . ibm have an overall foundation team that work with the interns to make sure they are getting the most out of their placement and that they are thoroughly enjoying themselves . I never didn't know what I was doing
I was lucky enough to attend multiple training days and industrial days in which I learnt lots about my role and the sector that I fall into . I also had the chance to network with people within my sector at events set up why ibm which was nice .

Working from home
they are very appealing however for me I am looking to work on a smaller scale project within a smaller start up company . if my only option was to come back and work for ibm I would not be against it however for me I want to explore what's out there.
The Culture
yes definitely this was one of the highlights of my year. I have made a massive group of great friends that I would spend out of work hours with. regular drinks on a Thursday evening were a big thing that I looked forward to with the other interns, as well as summer / winter balls etc
it is hard, I was based In southbank in London which is very expensive if you are not used to London prices - living in London is a pricey thing however if you are far away from the office I would 100% recommend it - it was great fun all year!
The nightlife was great - in London there are so many places to go espeically bars and night clubs - there are also so many cool things to do if that's not up your street - mini golf, art galleries, sports activities, the lot - its great fun ! !
yes definitely - within the area you are based in there definitely will be things such as sports clubs / gyms / drama clubs the lot - when you first move to the area don't be afraid to get involved , jump on google and have a browse to see what takes your fancy!
