The Role
The expose I received at Cummins was more than I could have ever hoped for form a placement year. It not only gave me the skills necessary to apply to my career, but also to my education. At Cummins they are always looking for ways to get you involved in as much as possible, which exposed me to really interesting situations.
I have never been in a team so welcoming as at Cummins. From day one every single person I have come across has been friendly and helpful. There will always be someone to help you if its ever necessary. Cummins friendly and caring culture can be felt as soon as you start.
My manager was so helpful, providing me support and guidance whenever necessary. She was also able to find ways to accommodate my individual learning style by adapting the work load and the way I was taught certain tasks. This really made me feel valued and allowed me to learn at my own pace.
In HR, work load changes depending on the demand of the business. Some days there are quieter days than others, but there is always something to do or someone to help. Team members will always be willing to pull you into their work if you ever feel like you don't have anything to do.
I was given large amounts of responsibility, with multiple projects solely my responsibility. At first this is daunting, but there will always be someone to help you if ever you feel like you are getting overwhelmed. The responsibility I was given massively boost the confidence I have in my own abilities.
The experience from my placement at Cummins has given me so many transferrable skills, both to my degree and future career. It has given me the confidence boost in my abilities that I needed to be able to become a more strategic and professional HR practitioner.
