About You
I would definitely recommend this insight. As I come from a non-finance background my main aim was to learn more about BAML and the financial industry as a whole. I feel this was met as I gained a deeper understanding. My favourite presentation titled "What is an Investment Bank" made me appreciate all the different divisions within the bank and how they play a part when it comes to serving solutions for their clients. The session was interactive and had a context (a cocoa farmer in Ghana) which was relatable and helpful.
During the week, on the TVs and screens, BAML had made a flyer/banner specifically welcoming us. I found that employees were willing to talk/chat in passing and answer questions.
We received a lot of guidance and support with regards to networking events and how to get the most of them to how to work well in a team and teamwork is really a large focal point for BAML. The junior talent team and employees were willing to speak/help us with any concerns which was really helpful.
Looking back I feel the spring week was balanced in terms of educating us about the bank, Lines of Business (LOB) and the Financial Industry and building and maintaining our transferable skills. We had sessions on Networking, managing one's brand, teamwork, how to read the FT which at first may seem unnecessary but was actually very helpful (and needed) as well as acing the Assessment Centre (AC). I feel the skills I picked up in these sessions and from other sessions will definitely come in handy in my studies and beyond.
The Company
Everyone knew what to expect, what to do and when. We were always on time and nothing clashed. In terms of what days things were on, I think that was done well, however, Global Markets (GM) interns may disagree as their AC was the day after the networking dinner. The dinner ended around 9/10 on Wednesday evening and their AC was on Thursday. My AC (Tech) was on Friday so I had ample time to prepare.
The culture and atmosphere at BAML is very welcoming. I personally enjoyed myself and felt comfortable enough to perform my best.
As mentioned before the BAML definitely gave us many skills sessions which were all very helpful.
I feel one can only gain so much from Q&A, interactive and work shadowing sessions with regards to what it would be like to work for BAML. The insight probably provided a surface understanding, as I am kinesthetic learner.
I feel you can only gain so much from Q&A interactive and work shadowing sessions but at the same time, the insight does well to provide to demonstrate the core of the culture.
I learned that GCIB which includes Investment Bnaking, GTS etc is not for me however Global Markets (GM) maybe more suited to me.
Everything Else
Transport expenses are reimbursed. Accommodation is provided for if you don't live in London.
Definitely, we had a networking evening on our first day, a career fair and a networking fair.
There was always a mixture of employees from different divisions and ample time to network.
Definitely, although you must be proactive and ask this for yourself as its not part of the spring week.
Absolutely, I found the insight to be eye-opening as I learned so much about myself and the bank.
