About You
The Spring Week to me proved to be extremely enjoyable, both in terms of learning more about what a job at Citi (Investment Banking and BCMA in general) entails, and in terms of the social aspect. If you want to fast-track your career, this is the way to do it. Also, the people are all helpful and friendly, and you have the opportunity to make new friends for life - both professionals for your network, as well as fellow Spring Interns.
I will just leave one example here: everyone I approached, even Managing Directors or Head of certain divisions or teams in all of EMEA never said no to a one-on-one or a quick coffee. People don't have the time - they take the time for you to meet them, and the more proactive you are, the more valued you'll feel - simple as that.
The events were great and not too excessive as is the case with Goldman Sachs or other places. Instead, you're allocated to a specific team where they assign you to certain tasks. My buddy was really busy for at least a couple of the days, but with a lot of the team members still stopping by to see how I was doing when working on this financial model, I felt the guidance/support was reasonable. By being proactive, however, you have a massive impact on this yourself.
I learned a tremendous amount in just the span of a week. I still cannot get my head around how I was treated as a Spring Intern: I was given my own desk and login, and had access to work and look on previous deals etc, of course within the limits of the Confidential Information Agreement. Being given a chance to work with a professional template was an experience of a lifetime.
The Company
I would say that the combination of events and desk-time was really good. What makes this less than a 10 was the at times sub-optimal coordination between teams and the events. If you take responsibility though, ie. if you manage your time well, you'll benefit from having the freedom to structure the week exactly how you see fit (just with events being mandatory - but interesting!).
The 10 tells all there needs to be said, really. Everyone was friendly and helpful, nothing bad to say here.
It was a spring insight, so you cannot expect to be given training equivalent to a CFA. But if you do convert, you'll be sure to be given world-class training and learn a tremendous amount every day you head off for work.
Freedom to ask questions, excellent networking events with juniors (analysts, associates) and seniors (VPs, Directors, MDs), and the opportunity to get familiar with a particular sector team really gave you a proper sense of what a full time role is like at Citi. No one tries to hide the facts, and people are honest when asked, and that was really valuable for me.
A lot - the culture can be seen throughout the entire week.
I already accepted an offer for a role as summer analyst in Investment Banking, so I believe that this tells the whole story - the Spring Week absolutely convinced me that I want to embark on a journey with Citi - a truly magnificent workplace with likeable people and an extremely high intellectual capacity.
Everything Else
Flights and accommodation was paid for, and GBP 70 of food expenses reimbursed.
Both a senior and a junior networking event, so you'd get the chance to get in touch with analysts and MDs (and everything in-between).
Excellent.
Yes - I really liked to hear about the annual ski trip, for instance. It is clear that there is a healthy working environment, and how people are not just colleagues, but also friends. Still, the main focus was on work, and that was what I came for.
10/10 would recommend.
