About You
I thoroughly enjoyed the insight week at J.P. Morgan. The effort and thoughtfulness that the HR team had put into organising the event were clearly visible through the range of activities and sessions which were able to take part in throughout the week. There was always something new and different to do each day, which I thought was a great aspect of the week.
There was a real emphasis made during the programme that J.P. Morgan was genuinely interested in recruiting young, new talent, and also that the firm viewed its recruits and future interns as real assets to the workplace. I thought this was particularly lovely because it had the effect of making you feel that it's not just that you want to work at J.P. Morgan, but genuinely, the rest of the firm wants you to work there too.
There was always someone who was willing to answer any questions that we had, whether it be a member of the HR team or an employee who had just finished giving a presentation about their specific line of business. There was also a really useful session that was focused on making us aware of next steps and how best to prepare for them.
The Company
The week was extremely well structured. We received a break down of what each day would consist of in advance, along with the allocated timings. There was a very clear flow and structure to each of the days, with some days tailored towards more technical training, and other days being more interactive and hands-on.
Everyone on the insight programme was really friendly and interactive. The members of the HR team were also really warm and welcoming and encouraged us to ask as many questions as we wanted to from the very beginning. This was great because it really set the tone of the environment as a friendly and open one.
There was so much training involved during the programme from the very first day. We received presentations on almost all of the different lines of business within the firm, breaking down how they operated in order to make the bank successful. We also received technical training into how investment banking actually works, and its various paradigms and structures.
The week was a great insight into what the day to day routines of the different professionals across the range of positions was like. We were able to talk with analysts, associates, vice presidents and directors about what each of their roles included, along with the varying levels of responsibility.
Spending the week at the firm really highlighted the importance that each of the different lines of business place on the company values, and how this trickles down into team and company culture. It was really evident when talking to employees at the bank that having this atmosphere serves as a great source of motivation for them.
The insight week was invaluable in providing me with more information about the careers and roles that I might like to pursue in the future. Similarly, it also allowed me to get a firmer grasp of what I would like out of a career, and the type of company that I would like to work for.
Everything Else
The HR team organised several opportunities for us to meet, talk with and follow up with other employees at the firm. There were several networking lunches and we were also able to attend a networking evening with one of the business resource groups at the firm, which provided an excellent opportunity to really get to know people better.
