About You
The Spring Insight into J.P. Morgan was my first experience with banking. It was highly enjoyable due to many interesting events organised. I obtained the possibility to look into many areas of business of this company but also networked with senior workers, as well as my peers. Overall it was a very insightful week.
The HR team organising the event really made an effort to make us feel welcome. Every speaker and worker treated us as potential employees which created a friendly environment. Despite some stress at the beginning of the week, after several icebreakers and friendly words, one could really learn a lot. We were told several times that there is no such thing as "stupid questions" and this was, in fact, the case.
The HR team led us through the week in a clear and supportive way. The programme was very reasonable and interesting. If any questions were raised, the team would always guide as through. As for the events themselves, the speakers were very understanding, always took us through all of the difficult content of the presentations or games which made everyone feel included.
Apart from many finance-related speeches, we took part in skills- based workshops which will definetely prove themselves useful in the future, both in our degree as well as beyond. As for the finance-related talks and events, the information and knowledge we received is very often useful in day-to-day life when listening to financial news.
The Company
The insight was very well structured, the agenda was very clear. The programme never ran late and didn't end later then it was planned to. It was also very well planned out when it came to different divisions. One day was reserved for an insight into investment banking, another for markets. Additionally, none of the days were particularly packed which made it easier to follow all of the events.
The atmosphere was fantastic. The HR team put a lot of effort into trying to make us feel welcome. Many things were planned out so that we would integrate with each other. Also, the atmosphere in general was fairly casual which made the insight programme more enjoyable and fun whilst maintaining high quality.
Many workshops and skills sessions were organised in order to develop our soft skills. I believe J.P. Morgan did a very good job in giving us the possibility for personal training.
Introductory presentations into many of the divisions offered by J.P. Morgan gave us the possibility to see what this company deals with on a day-to-day basis. Additionally, given the possibility to network with senior employees and take part in a careers fair enabled us to talk to workers who could share an insight on their work, but also opinions on the company and the culture.
As mentioned above, when networking, we could understand what J.P. Morgan's culture is like. Moreover, many presentations on charity events, extracurricular activites, gave us the possibility to disover the culture of the company outside of the work environment itself.
Before coming to J.P. Morgan i wasn't really convinced I wanted to go into banking, in general. Although this is still not the case, it has given me a broader insight on this area of business and some particular divisions I would be willing to try to explore in the future.
