    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement here at IBM. I have been trusted with a good amount of responsibility but also have not been given too much to the point where I cannot cope.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Very valued. I worked with a variety of people in different parts of the business, all of whom treated me as another employee, rather than looking at me as an intern. This was something I was worried about before my placement at such a large company.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Overall, the support on my placement has been good. I have had access to numerous training courses and was taught my role well before I was given an increased level of responsibility. My task manager was always a phone call away and happy to help if I did not understand something.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It varies. There were some days where I was very quiet and this would usually be around school holidays, when the majority of my team would be on holidays. Some days I would also be extremely busy when I would be working on back to back tasks. On the whole, I found that I was kept busy without being ridiculously busy!

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a high amount of responsibility during my placement year. I attended a lot of meetings and was expected to contribute to these meetings. I also had monthly and quarterly submissions that would be on behalf of IBM UK.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I have learnt over my placement year will be extremely beneficial to my final year at university. They will also allow me to adapt to a graduate role, whether it is here at IBM or elsewhere.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Due to the nature of my team it meant that a lot of them were based at client locations, which meant that the office could be quieter from time to time.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The work placement was very well organised. I have an early professional manager and a task manager, meaning I had people to talk to about my placement. This set up worked well as it meant that I constantly had a manager to contact with any issues that I may experience.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm invested heavily in me on my placement year and will continue to invest in you regardless of whether you decide to come back or not. They have multiple online courses available and encourage you to do 40 hours of training in your time here.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Financial Bonus

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Working from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would definitely like to work back at IBM. This is due to the people within the company and how well the company look after you.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Definitely. There are so many placement students here at IBM that there is always something going on. I lived at home on my year but that didn't leave me feeling out of the loop!

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It is high. Working on the Southbank definitely has its perks, but the cost of socialising is not one!

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Being in Central London the nightlife is really good, you can literally do anything after work.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Not particularly. There have been emails regarding ski trips etc...
