The Role
I really enjoyed my placement year at IBM including the professional aspects and the social vibe! The placement was challenging at times but it's equipped me with a whole new set of skills. Also my colleagues were really friendly and approachable which made the year sail in!
Senior staff would ask us about certain areas of the product that we had specialised in so I think that says it all really!
IBM have a very good scheme in place that ensures you are supported with your day job and your career development so definitely a lot of support and guidance, and as always with IBM, all you need to do is reach out.
As I was working in technical support there were always thinks to do done, constant flow of cases and customers to be dealt with so yeah definitely busy and constant improvement which was good.
We were dealing with international customers from our second week. Really big brands and a lot of money at stake but we weren't treated differently as interns.
I feel IBM has made me more of an all rounder, developed my existing skills and I've learnt quite a lot about customer experience and management. Definitely they've helped me become even more employable.
The Company
It was a quiet office but we as interns created a positive vibe and went to lunch together so we had each other as entertainment
IBM have been doing this for years so it is a very smooth process. The transition into the role and IBM in general was very smooth.
We were allowed to attend quite a few training sessions and constantly achieve knowledge through their online learning management system
Working from home
IBM run their own Consulting by Degrees programme for graduates. I'd definitely love to come back as a graduate because there's something for everyone and that's where the real perks of being an IBMer kick in. You get to change the future, implement positive change for our clients and get a lot of certifications funded by IBM.
The Culture
Although there weren't many interns in my office we made the most of it!
Greater London is really expensive so it cost quite a bit but overall worth the experience.
Don't know if there was any nightlife around the office!
TONNES! IBM run this scheme called giveback that allows you to sign up to events whether internal or external to IBM and it's seen as giving back to the community, dedicating your time and assisting others, was brilliant!
