    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The whole experience was really enjoyable. I was able to get involved in a lot of different activities and do quite interesting work. The office atmosphere was very friendly and I felt really welcomed. I would happily go back there to work.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • It was really easy to get settled in as everyone in my office (Uxbridge) was really friendly. They invited me out to lunch, after work drinks, sporting events in the evenings. I was also asked to do a number of rather experienced pieces of work which, although difficult and stretched me, but made me feel more appreciated. Everyone made the effort to get to know me and it very much felt like I was part of the office.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was always there if I had a question to ask but the most help I received was from my colleagues in the few years above me. They always had time to help me with even the most mundane tasks and ensured I was doing the right thing.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I wasn't exactly inundated with work and had to make the effort at times to ask people if they needed in any help. However, this was a great way to meet everyone in the office and once I introduced myself they always kept me in mind for tasks that they had. At times I found I had lots of work to do but colleagues were more than willing to help me and I never felt as though I was under too much pressure. The work load varied from day-to-day but was always manageable.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given quite a lot of responsibility given that I only completed a summer internship. I was treated like a First Year Graduate and enjoyed the same responsibilities as them. I got to interact with clients, do technical work, etc.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learned a number of useful skills and my confidence really increased from completing the internship. It gave me a lot more practical experience than I ever received in my degree. I now feel really comfortable in an office setting.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Everyone was very friendly and approachable. It was very easy to meet colleagues for a chat and a catch-up. I got on really well with the other interns. All the employees were quite chatty and because I got to know some of them outside the office (in socializing events) it made it more comfortable to start a conversation with them. The whole office was very relaxed.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Overall, it was a well organised internship. I think it more resembles a typical office routine and life within an office, which was great to experience. I didn't have my whole day planned for me by the company which meant I had to make my own opportunities for work - which was a good thing.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company invested a lot of time and effort ensuring we got the most out of the internship - a few days training/fun in a hotel; taken to lunch; being taken to the head offices in central London; opportunities to meet clients; etc.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I was offered a job at the end of internship.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was loads of opportunities to meet the people from my office. There was constantly social gatherings organised. Also, although I worked in a different department from my other placement students, it was very easy to meet them at lunch and after work (even in work for a quick chat).

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The costs were not anymore than I expected and from the money I earned, I was able to live comfortable and not have to worry about budgeting to a great extent.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • As my area where the office was located is outside London, there wasn't very much nightlife. I would have to travel into London to experience it. Although central London isn't too far.

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Lots of opportunities were available. For someone like me who didn't live in the area and didn't know anyone, it was easy to get involved.

    4/5
