    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed how flexible the workplace is, especially within the team where I can work from multiple different locations and still be effective as most work is done on the laptops provided. For me personally, I had the opportunity to travel for my role which didn't happen but was a possibility for others. The team were extremely friendly and supportive and so were my managers.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • With my colleagues in my team being across the globe, our main means of contact was through conference calls over the internet. Despite not having that face to face interaction they still made me feel extremely welcomed which allowed me to settle very quickly. They always ensured I was enjoying myself, not only at work but outside of work so I had a good balance and not too much was put on my shoulders.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The support and guidance from my managers were amazing, they always check up on my mental well-being and to see if I am fitting in well and comfortable. If any struggles or issues they always make time to speak about them and help you through it or appoint you to a person who would be best to support

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was pretty balanced in the amount of work I had, given projects with deadlines allowed me to spread my workload across the weeks but could get busy at random times which is expected but nothing too hard to manage. Random events may pop up with higher priority which means rescheduling other tasks and putting more hours in but that's expected in any working environment.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I had a massive responsibility which what I do doesn't sound like much because I do a lot of work in the background, however, when it isn't done I definitely heard from multiple people where the work is which made me realise the impact of my work and the importance of trying to keep people updated. This was handled well as the responsibility didn't make me seem nervous to have but did have its importance within the team.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learnt a new coding language (R) and got better at some others such as Python, JavaScript, SQL etc. I did want more exposure with some hands-on coding but this role didn't provide much of that so I looked at doing courses which the company provided to learn more

    3/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The people around me are always friendly and we have a good laugh. After work drinks are arranged and often spend time with each other on some weekends or nights out. Very friendly where everyone is willing to help on issues you're stuck on in something they may have knowledge on and willing to give up that bit of time.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very organised, I had a fixed structure for reviews and feedback as well as a journal to fill out to self reflect and receive more feedback from my managers. Events specialised for interns were held to help career prospects and also refresh the mind on the outlook of placement and how to get the most out of it

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • My team invested in a tutor who helped me write more complex SQL statements which were needed for a task that was assigned to me.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • National Travel

    International Travel

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Working from home

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I am looking at applying back to the company especially after hearing it won the award for the best grad scheme. The opportunities you have as a grad seem a lot more vast and it's a great way to work your way up to the top of the organisation. I am currently working on achieving my best here as an intern to ensure I secure a place as a grad.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Lots of after-work drinks and socials and weekend outings. Holidays were planned abroad, at lunch together and became a really strong group of friends

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Being in central London it's not cheap but if you live here with your parent's it's not bad but renting that would be quite difficult but others managed to find ways to save for socialising and holidays

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • It's London, it speaks for itself. Loads of things to do, numerous places to visit.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes, there are loads of things to get involved in. I am an Adult Volunteer for the Amry Cadet Force which has many units across London. Other activities include being in a football team or roller-skating disco team etc, the opportunities are endless. This does mean going out and finding out about them as they won't be obvious at first.
