The Role
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Disney. The placement has given me the opportunity to experience what the creative and licensing industry is really about. I have been able to work with franchises I love and this has really driven me throughout my time here. The fact I was able to spend some time living in London only enhanced the experience further.
All colleagues at the company are very close. Teams collaborate very frequently and include everyone in discussions and meetings. I have received praise from a variety of teams within my department, and have truly felt like a valued and trusted member of the workforce. Morale is generally very high and Disney is a great employer.
My manager keeps in contact with me frequently to assist in any issues that may have arisen. Whenever I have asked for guidance I have been granted it. Managers from across the company explain things in terms I can understand and despite the fact I am only an intern, I am included in important high level discussions.
Most of the time I have the perfect balance of work to do. But the flow of work could be inconsistent at times. Some weeks it could be really slow whilst others had loads of work that needed to be done. My workflow usually coincides with the release of a new property, so it is quite cyclical.
I was the only individual in the company who was designated to exclusively carry out my role. That responsibility was only enhanced further as I was taking over the role of another colleague who had left the company. I had help when I needed it and I couldn't do everything myself, but for an intern I feel I had a large responsibility.
For my final year of university I have learned valuable commercialisation skills and marketing techniques. I have also become familiar with new CAD software which will help me present my work in better quality than I would have been able to had I not done the placement. Truly a worthwhile experience!
The Company
The atmosphere was great. All colleagues were always happy to be there. I think the nature of the company lends itself quite nicely to having good employee morale. Of course not every day was the same and we have had things go wrong, but generally the atmosphere was really good.
Very organised. Everything was ready for me when I arrived at the placement. My predecessor had put together a guide specific to my role and this coupled with their mentoring helped me get off to a good start at the company. I can't think of how I would have carried it out any differently.
I have undergone a lot of training on a variety of subjects including security, ergonomics and confidentiality. However this is mandatory for all colleagues. With my role you learn as you go along, and the more time you spend in the role the quicker you become with performing tasks, and the more reliable you will be.

I would love to return to Disney and continue my role in some capacity. I have not been offered anything yet but will certainly keep an eye out for any prospects. Even if I didn't go back the whole prospect of having Disney on my CV will definitely open doors nevertheless.
The Culture
Fellow interns would meet together for events every so often, and we were all very supportive of one another. Social gatherings outside of the work environment added a whole new dynamic to the placement which was beneficial as it helped our confidence in one another. Lots of places to go out in London as well!
It has been very expensive. Luckily I was in a situation where I could just about manage to live comfortably, however this may not be the case for everyone. There are ways around it, but generally the price of socialising can be quite high so we didn't go often. Once every few weeks was plenty though.
Very good. Lots of shops and restaurants open until late, and all of very high quality. It was expensive but there was an active nightlife scene in my area. Transport links easily connected you with other areas of London as well so if it wasn't your cup of tea there you could go elsewhere.
There have been a few volunteer schemes but nothing major. Most of my time has been spent at the office during work hours. Very rarely have there been opportunities outside of the office. Not sure if it's a case of seeking them out for yourself or whether they aren't advertised efficiently.
