    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my placement. It was a great experience where I had lots of opportunities to meet lots of new people and learn lots of different skills that could help me in my future career. All the full-time staff are used to working with and managing interns so they are all very considerate and helpful.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued by my colleagues, everyone you work with has been working with interns since they started at Disney so they are considerate that it's your first job and treat you like you're a graduate on a graduate scheme. So you're given proper tasks and roles, you're not just there to make tea and print.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given lots of suppport and guidance by my manager. They had 1 to 1 catch ups with me regularly and they often pushed me to try to learn from other areas and network as much as possible. As well as shadowing other interns and managers from different departments.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • On average I was fairly busy every day, there where times where I was really busy. At the end of a financial year or quarter etc or lots of new films were released around the same time. There was also quieter times when there wasn't as much going on but I still always had weekly and daily tasks to do as well as supporting other business areas when they had requests so I was never bored!

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • We are all given lots of responsibility during our placement years, as I said before we are treated like graduates so lots or people rely on our work and we work with and for lots of important people. My work goes to lots of people around the business and quite often I have to present to lots of people.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have learnt a lot of transferrable skills that I will be able to use in my future career. Not a lot of them will be applicable to my studies in my final year at uni. For example office behaviour and email ettiquete are useful skills for the future but not relevant to uni. My excel and general microsoft office skills have improved immeasurably and I think those are the biggest advantages I have in terms of skills I have learnt on this placement year to use in the future.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very lively and friendly! People dress casually - most interns wear jeans, t-shirts and trainers and most of the full-time employees do too! Everyone is always in a good mood and happy to have a chat. There's lots of opportunities to do things during work hours to develop ypur own skills. For example they run first aid courses, mental health workshops and organise screenings of the latest disney films when they're released in the Disney Cinema.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It's very well organised. They hire lots of interns every year and have been doing for many years now so they have had lots of practice to streamline and perfect the process! We have a handover period where the old and new interns work together for at least a week to make sure the new interns are trained properly.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There are lots of courses and training sessions available as mentioned earlier but I feel not a lot were relevant to me and they could provide more professional qualifications or advertise the training they do offer more so everyone knows what is actually available to them. There's room to improve!

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    2/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • There is not an official graduate scheme to re-apply or try to get a place on. However ltos of old interns stay in contact with the managers and colleagues they've networked with so they end up coming back when a role becomes available. So there is always a chance of a future job if you work hard!

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I think it totally depends on whether or not you make the effort to have a social scene with fellow placement students. This year we have had a few events as an entire intern cohort but I also have a good social scene with a small group fo interns on my floor.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of socializing in Hammersmith and Fulham can be as cheap or costly as you make it. There are plently of student friendly places with discounts and low proces and also more expensive and fancier places to choose from too. There's a simialr situation with living costs and rent!

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Good but not as good as central london, there are a few places close to work and a few between Hammersmith and Central London - it's as good as you make it basically!

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There is a volunteer group that you can be a part of and a choir group etc. You can also be a part of the Disney Triathalon team every year they do a triathalon around Dorney Lake.
