The Role
I really enjouy my placement experience. I work in the Contract Management Centre team and they have really helped me develop and grow during this placement. The work itself is probably the closest you can get to doing legal work at the minute because I am not a qualified lawyer.
I feel really valued by my colleagues. There are many difference nationalities in my team so a lot of differenct culture and experiences and its great learning from them all. The have spent a lot of time with me too showing me how to draft difficult contracts. The are always approachable and really easy to talk to.
The management team is very supportive, with my manager i have bi-weely meeting with him to catcup on any issues I may have or I can ask him if there is somethign else I would like to get involved in and her is there to support me. The supervisors also in the team are all very approachable.
At the start of placement I wasnt that busy as they was a lot I did not know, but when you are about three months into your placement and youk now all of the systems and what you have to do so the team is confident in giving you more work, but they always ask do you have the capacity to do the work and if you dont then you can just say no whioch is good because then you dont feel pressured.
In some roles I am given a lot of responsibily. I have to lead a team when doing the internal audit, I also have to organise the assessment day when the process for hiring nthe next interns start and I am also the only one that closes contracts in the system which is a big responsibilty.
This placement year has helped me develope a lot of skills such as confidence, IT skills and orgainisation skills. I will be able to bring these skills to not only my final year of university wehn preparing for exams and coursework, but also to any other job that I go into in the future.
The Company
The general atmosphere is quite relaxed in the office which is good. The dress code is a smart casual so no one is wearing suit and this helps keep the atmosphere nice. Everyone is friendly and chatty but you also have to remember that you cant spend all day talking that you have to do your work too.
I think it was very well organised, there are two interns in my team and its good that we both started at the same time so that we could help eachother out in the begining. Although we only have one week handover with the previous interns and i think it would have been more beneficial with a two week handover.
They have invested quite heavily in me as I have already taken part in 2 training courses which was very beneficial and I have two more lined up before the end of placement. We also have a two day team training which the whole team took part in and this helped teambuilding and confidence skills.
I would love to come back as a qualified laywer to work in the Disney team and becasue I have already woked here I have more of a chance of getting a job over someone that hasnt. Although there is no specific graudate scheme which is dissapointing, I really think there should be one as the size of this company is massive ans smaller places have one.
The Culture
Yes there was and this was very beneficial in finding accomadation for hte year. All interns (there are 200 in the building) are added into a Facebook page and people can post social events and for me it helped me find people to live with for the year. We also had an intern ball.
The cost of living is quite expensive but I would recomment living as close as you can to the office as if you dont then yes you might find somehwere cheaper but the cost to travel in would be more expensive. Drink prices in London are alwasy going to be expensive no matter where you are.
There are a lot of bars around so it is a good area to do a good bar crwal which I have organsied one to do with the team. this is especially good during summer hours whn you finish work at 3pm on Friday. Althoughh if you prefer nightclubs there is none in Hammersmith so you have to travel by tube to get to places
This placement is based in London so yes there is a lot of stuff to do in London. Depends on you budget on what you want to do but the company doesnt usually pay for anyhting outside of woek so you have have to fund it yourself. I recoomed going to some theatre shows
