About You
I really enjoyed my time at Jefferies as I had the opportunity to test myself in a challenging and dynamic environment. This spring week really helped me to gain a deep insight on the financial world and how an Investment bank really works.
Every employee we met at Jefferies was very kind and willing to spend time with us and answer to our questions, especially during the work shadowing. I think also the various group activities we had enabled us to show our potential and capabilities.
During the week we were looked after by the recruitment team, which was very supportive and adaptive to every request we had. We receive lot of support also for our group projects, as many analysts gave us useful tips on how to organise the work.
I came at Jefferies with a little and general knowledge on the argument, but during the week I gained lot of specific information, especially thanks to a presentation we had on the first day. I think that what I learned would be very useful also in my university career.
The Company
The Spring week was very well organised, as they gave us introductive information at the beginning, which was useful in the next days in order to better understand how the analysts work.
I found a pleasent atmosphere at Jefferies, as I was surrounded by employees always willing to answer each of our question. The structure there was very flat, and this enabled us also to confront easily with seniors.
In my opinion, they gave us the right preparation in order to understand in depth the environment in which the firm works. The rhythm was really intense and sometime hard, but definetely worth it.
I think the work shadowing was extremely useful in order to understand how it would be to work for Jefferies. The analysts were very specific and detailed about their time-schedule, their assignments and responsibilities.
Especially during networking lunch and drinks we had the opportunity to watch the firm's culture and the internal structure, which is extremely flat and welcoming.
An experience like this is really worth in order to fully understand how my job may look like in three or five years. But I think that only after a Summer Internship one would be completely prepared to decide his future career path.
Everything Else
We received a reimbursement for our travel expenses and our dinner meals, and we were provided an accomodation at a hotel near the firm's building.
There were lots of opportunities to make connections with other employees, not only analysts but even MDs and seniors. We took part in several networking lunches and drinks, and SEO students also had special meeting organised by the firm.
The events were well organised and structured, as there were always enough employees with whom we could talk to and people from almost every division of the firm.
I honestly have heard only about diversity programs which are organised by the firm, but not any other individual activity in which employees get involved in.
I think I gained lot of experience from this week, as I had the opportunity to test myself in a real working environment, something you can't do at university. The skills and technical knowledge we learned would be certainly useful in my future, whether I would be working in this field or not.
