The Role
My work placement has been one of the best years of my life, I have thoroughly enjoyed every moment. The amount of responsibility I have been given as an intern has been amazing, the team I work with are outstanding and are a big part to play of why I enjoyed my placement so much.
I feel very valued by my colleagues, one of my biggest fears when I started was that as an intern you are treated as an intern. However, it is quite the opposite, since starting I have been treated not like an intern at all but a key member of the team.
The support and guidance at the beginning was a lot, I heavily relied on my manager which is expected as going into a new role is difficult. However, now I take it upon myself to manage my own work load and projects and need little guidance and support from my manager. But if I needed the support and guidance it is always there.
On a daily basis I have been very busy, working in the division I do means that everything is very fast paced, my to do list changes every day if not every couple of hours. However, I have a YES attitude and like this fast paced environment, I have also taken on extra responsibilities as I want to get the most out of my placement year as possible, therefore my work load is high but this is down to my own personal choice.
The responsibilities I have been given while working at L'Oréal has been amazing, I never thought that as an intern I would be leading and running the projects that I have. The amount of responsibility you have is down to yourself and how much you want, if you want to progress and push yourself you will definitely be given the opportunity to do so.
The skills I have learnt an invaluable, it has set me up for life, not only do I now know what area of business I am wanting to go into but I now understand how a business works and have first hand experience. These skills will be used in my degree for my final year and in my career going forward.
The Company
The general atmosphere is busy, everyone is always hard at work, whether its 7pm in the evening or 7am in the morning, there are always people working hard at their desks. However, everyone is very friendly and as a department we are like a family, I have made friendships for life which is great as it means we can always have a laugh at the end of the day.
It was very well organised, from start to finish everything has been organised perfectly. During hand over week I was taught everything I could have and my hand over book was a life saver, we have had talks and socials as interns which has been great to get to know everyone and make new friends.
L'Oréal invested in me hugely, I was given so many opportunities to run projects that allowed me to develop myself. My team have really allowed me to grow and learn new skills whenever it is possible, however it is also down to myself asking for these opportunities and wanting to lead projects and learn more.

Very appealing, one comment I have always receive is that I fit in so well with the company and I feel that I do to. Watching other people in my team and their roles I am eager to come back in the future and do what they do, they inspire me to want to come back and progress within the business.
The Culture
There is a good social scene, at the start we used to have regular socials lead by our committee, however towards the middle and the end of our internship this has stopped. There are opportunities through sports teams, however as I don't play a sport I cant participate in these.
Expensive, but this was expected. Living in London is expensive and me and my housemates wanted to live close to work so we can walk every morning. Therefore, living and socialising in London is expensive but as I come from an area with similar costs of living it wasn't a big shock to me, but may be to someone coming from a different location.
The nightlife is good, there are lots of bars and pubs in the area to go to, they are always busy and bustling with city workers wanting a drink after work. There are also lots of events run by our division meaning we get to explore and go out with them.
There where some opportunities to get involved in activities, but with such a high work load it was difficult to be fully involved in other activities. However, whenever possible I was fully involved in the activities external from work, I chose to focus on learning an growing within work, but I know other interns wanted to focus on external activities.
