About You
The insight was extremely interesting and enjoyable. The week was in Canary Wharf and ran from 9-5 each day and the cohort consisted of 55 people. We met a wide range of people from the technology department both front end and back end and participated in coding challenges and work shadowing opportunities.
Everyone who was with us was extremely kind and helpful, from the recruitment team, to MD and ED's who gave presentations and the employers on the graduate programme who we spoke to and were mentored by to the catering team.Everyone was very friendly and we felt very valued during the week and that JPM was pleased to have us.
The recruitment team were always around to help us if needed and each activity or presentation which we completed, had mentors allocated to us whom which we could ask questions. They were very honest and open in their answers. We were fortunate to receive an unexpected presentation at the end of the week which was facilitated by the team as a result of on of the participants on the programme who has enquired about a specific area of tech.
I have definitely become more keen to continue to learn and develop my programming skills which was encouraged on the programme to enable us to have the skills for the summer rinternship . Working in different teams every day was useful to meet new people on the programme and many of whom I have got contact details for the future.
The Company
Very well structured, on the first day we received a handbook with the entire weeks program content and structure per hour. This was majorly stuck to and times were kept strictly to schedule. We never ran much over the end timed session of the day and always finished at reasonable times.
The atmosphere was extremely fun. Some of us on the cohort got very friendly, and went out for dinner and drinks most nights. everyone was extremely lovely and interesting to speak to, from a diverse range of places and backgrounds. You could sit down and speak to anyone and engage it an interesting conversation.
We had a session on presenting and developing your "brand image" which was very interesting and engaging. It helped equip us to appropriately speak to staff members at JPM at the networking lunches and dinners.
We shadowed lots of employees, primarily from the back end software engineers who did truthfully articulate the pressures and workloads and working hours of the job which was not dialled down. they showed us some projects they were working on and what software they use, and discussed their teams and opportunities for movements across teams.
There seems to be a huge focus on "groups" and support networks in JPM, but outside of the job. For example, a women's support network and BAME group. the culture seems to be becoming increasingly inclusive and diverse, illustrated through those we met on the graduate programme who had a range of backgrounds.
Extremely valuable. The programme has completely shifted my view on Tech and taught me how important it is in our developing society. I have definitely been swayed to pursue a career in FinTech. the content of the day, for example the coding challenges were extremely interesting and we used a variety of software such as RASPBERRY PI.
Everything Else
The Accommodation (Aparthotel) was provided and paid for in Greenwich and a 7 day travel card was provided to get the DLR to Canary Wharf each day. Similarly, breakfast and lunch was provided every day, and they had gf and veggie options and 2 dinners were provided throughout the week.
There were plenty of opportunities to network throughout the week, we went to the finance networking dinner as well as the tech one. We had lunch with some MD and EDs and spoke to people who were about to start their summer internship to tell us about their recruitment process and experience.
There was one social on the first night in Canary Wharf where all three programs joined together (tech, finance and non-finance) and we had dinner and drinks. It was extremely fun meeting everyone, with it especially being so diverse with students from all over the world. Networking was also fine and people were easy to speak to.
Opportunities such as "Hack for Good" where employers participate in a hackathon to benefit social good .
Definitely, extremely insightful and enjoyable.
