About You
I thought it was a really interesting insight and showcased a lot of different roles available at the company. Including evening events, the hours were long but as it was only for a week this was good as it meant every minute was being utilised well. The coding challenges were intimidating for beginners, but they did a good job mixing the teams to ensure different abilities were in every group, giving everyone the chance to learn.
The organisers were very friendly and helpful and listened and responded to all concerns that were brought to them. As well as this, the shadowing and networking activities brought us into contact with more senior members of the company, who were happy to answer all the questions honestly and give us advice about what life would be like if we had a career at the company.
Most exercises were really good and catered for all ability levels, however the coding exercises felt quite advanced for someone at a beginner level. The support we received was really good. Each group of 4/5 was given a mentor who sat at their table and advised them or explained how to go about coding certain actions for the robot to take.
The networking skills will assist me a lot beyond my degree. There were a few seminars which felt a bit lengthy, and I think the time spent in those could have been better utilised with maybe more shadowing, as that was the best part of the insight for many people.
The Company
The insight was structured really well, we didn't encounter any problems and the day almost always started and ended at the time that we had been informed it would. Everyone around knew where we should be and we were kept informed of the timings of activities so that we would not forget or be late.
The general atmosphere was brilliant. It was a really good time overall. The only downside was on the days we had to be at the office for 8:30am, we had networking events in the evening that went on till 9:00pm, so a lot of people were exhausted by the end of the day. It would've been ideal if the networking events were on days that we only had to reach the office for 9am.
There was little developmental training provided as the insight was only for one week. The main training given was to do with personal branding, which was interesting and useful.
The insight gave me a clear view of what a future with the firm would be like. By shadowing employees on the graduate scheme, we could talk to people just a few years older than us. Networking also meant we met a lot of people who told us how it was to work in the company when you are at a higher level.
Insight into this was brief, but we were informed of all the society and volunteering opportunities that are available when you join the company. As well as this, they told us about all the groups for ex-veterans, minority groups and parents coming back to work (to name just a few).
We had a brief look at many different roles within the company, however it wasn't a deep enough look for me to be certain about the kind of future career path I am looking for.
Everything Else
J.P Morgan provided an apartment for the duration of the insight week which was a 10 minute tube journey from the Canary Wharf office. They also paid for the transport to and from the office and the return train from my university to London. As well as this, breakfast and lunch was provided every day, with dinner provided on 2 of the 5 days.
Most lunchtimes we were given the opportunity to network with senior members of the firm. One dinner was used to mingle with other students on the insight week, but the other dinner was used to mingle with members of the firm on the grad scheme. As well as this, we had 4 hours of shadowing split over 2 days.

We were informed about volunteering initiatives and groups available for minorities.
Yes, I would.
