About You
To a very large extent. The insight was extremely well rounded and provided great experience to those with no prior knowledge. I enjoyed the hands-on aspects of the insight, for example the Lifecycle of a trade simulation and having tours of the trading floor. The insight combined academic learning with practical experience with was laudable.
The insight gave us confidence and was in no way patronising to those with eager, but basic, financial questions. The atmosphere generated was one of encouragement and respect. I really enjoyed it as a result and was more eager to reach out of my comfort zone when applying or seeking knowledge.
We received a lot of guidance during the insight in terms of academic resources. We had learning sessions about financial markets which involved lots of inclusive learning. There was a significant degree of self-motivation, however, as we were expected to to take on information and apply it. For example, apply the presentation skills in our networking events, or use financial knowledge to ask employees about the technicalities of the job.
The Company
The insight was very well structured with a great schedule. I felt that no minute was wasted and that we were always kept on our toes. The structure of the insight was a great introduction to the standards of work expectations and professional behaviour because we had to keep pace with the timetable, while employing professionalism, especially in the networking events.
The general atmosphere was extremely friendly and encouraging. It felt as though they really wanted us to do well and take on all the infomration for the next steps in the application process. Employees were really willing to share advice and information to help the interns get off the ground.
The firm has invested a lot of personal training and development in us. We were given a 6-month subscription to the Economist to further our understanding of finance and the World Economy. This was incredibly generous and extremely encouraging to those with little previous knowledge. The firm is also very accessible for future questions and wants to keep in touch with us as much as possible during the application process.
Very useful. The divisions in the bank and the different roles available were always emphasised, with lots of employees from different divisions giving presentations. We were clearly emphasised to think deeply about which division was right for us and had a lot of resources during the insight to navigate through the decision.
Everything Else
The networking opportunities were very useful. We were given many events in which to chat and make contacts. Linkedin has been a useful way to keep in touch with the contacts made and it was very much encouraged to make good contacts or find out as much as we could throughout the opportunities.
Yes, form the first day there was a presentation on the extra-curricular and volunteering projects the bank has set up and been involved in. We were introduced to the social aspects that JPMorgan help champion and found out that a significant number of employees do take part in the volunteering projects, with leniency and permission from those in charge. It seemed very balanced and encouraging.
I would definitely recommend this insight to a friend. I found it very exciting, not just to get a foot in the door and meet new people, but to have a totally different experience to University. The rapid learning curve when we got there was most enjoyable, and allowed us to be totally immersed in the information given.
