About You
Advertised for STEM students, however you needed a lot of computer science knowledge. Sometimes you attempted to participate but it was hard because I didn't know any computer science. Although JP morgan put on some very good socials and fed us very well. Also everyone was very friendly which made the experience so much better.
I didn't feel very valued as when I told people I didn't do computer science they lost interest and I think they should have coupled people with similar backgrounds during the work shadowing so that I could see how they got into it and how they avoided the situation. But I do think some people liked that I was from STEM background as I like to approach things differently.
When I told the mentor I didn't know how to code they tried to explain it to me, although it is a very hard concept to understand, which I respect. However I do think that it should be compulsory to do Computer science or give more support to those who can't code.
The way coding work is so precise so it's taught me that you have to be so precise in your work, calculations for example which I probably wasn't before. Although the actual content we learnt will not benefit my degree as I do nothing like that. But also we had lots of opportunities to network which has taught me a great life skill.
The Company
It was well organised, timings were perfect and events rarely ran over which is good. Although there were quite a lot of socials and sometimes you had enough after an 8hr working day as well as travelling. Sometimes we were delayed in the morning due to technical faults, however they soon managed to make up the time.
Everyone was really friendly and I've probably made some friends for life, even if they're not doing the same degree. Which I like because I know they will help me and I will do they same. All the senior workers were really informative and friendly and willing to ask any questions.
They spent a lot of money ensuring that we enjoyed ourselves, including a free bar at the socials and everything was paid for. They spent a lot of time working with us as well and we then learnt a lot more about the company and encouraging us to apply for internships.
We had 1 to 1 chats with graduates and explained their day to day life and they were really honest. They made me realise how good JP Morgan are in terms of caring about your well being as well as your work performance. Also you could see how relaxed the over all office seemed , such that they only wear casual clothes.
The whole insight was in one of JP Morgan offices so there were people working nearby so you could actually see what their desks, facilities etc were like. They showed us that they write on the walls etc because they don't mind that sometimes being casual is not a bad thing, for example their uniform.
They showed us a wide range of different paths you could go, however unfortunately non of them were what I wanted , however it allowed me to get a good insight to what it is all about and what people actually do and how they impact JP morgan as a whole.
Everything Else
They could have told us to keep our receipts beforehand so we could be reimbursed. However it was very good of JP morgan to pay for travel and accommodation in a nice hotel situated very close to the offices so they had obviously looked the hotel up . They also paid for our food so we didn't have to spend much.
We had a lot of networking events, almost too many and they were too short, also it was usually when we were eating lunch and it was hard to do them both at the same time and was very off putting . But the work shadowing was very good but we should have been put with someone with a similar back ground.
JP Morgan provided a social which was bowling and it was so much fun.
Charity work.
If you do computer science, then yes.
