The Role
I went through a honeymoon phase with this placement at the start, then it started getting a bit harder. A big factor to the reason I might have struggled is the fact that I’m working with a remote team & none of my teams where around me. However, with time I became better in tasks and understood the tasks expected from me. This has been a work experience that has taught me things studying wouldn’t have been able to teach you, and I gained many skills.
Has I was working with a remote team, at times I knew I wasn’t the top of their priority list but if I reached out for help I knew I would get support. Also, it times if stress colleagues around me who did not work with me would always help me find a solution or help reduce my stress.
I was given a remote handover, so it took much longer as it was all on the phone. But once the handover phase was over, we were not able to cover everything. So, my manager and colleague filled me in on the parts I couldn’t got through and I made them aware of things I did not know, until I eventually knew all I needed to know after the 1st 6 months.
I am normally fairly busy, unless there isn’t anything to cover or not much is going on. The summer was particularly busy as we were trying to attract people that are on holiday, to our products. While other months were much calmer and I was able to help in other areas, take on more, or volunteer with internal events.
Once I was fully integrated in my role I was given full responsibility & accountability on my day to day tasks. It all depends on the role and size in the team, but generally speaking, the inters play an important role in the process and delivery of important tasks in the company.
The skills & experience I acquired from this internship will most definitely help me in my future career, building my professional portfolio and enhancing me CV. Also, I will be knowledgeable enough to proceed to my final year and have a good understanding of what I could be covering in my dissertation.
The Company
Everyone is very chatty, friendly, supportive and love to bring in treats & sweets. It depends on your department, but in my experience I found it easy to chat or ask general questions e.g. the London lifestyle, as everyone would love to share info with you.
It is fairy organised, the location was clear, my job description and interview gave me an idea about what I’m going to be doing in my placement. The desks and floor and organised as well so as big of a building it is, you will be able to have a good understanding of where a meeting room might be.
As I worked with a remote team, I had to use my initiative and be vocal about opportunities that could help me and that I wanted to take part of. I was never told no to participate, but I was always asked to cover my tasks before taking part in anything that takes up my time during working hours.

Working from home
It is very appealing as a stable job, as you would also get me perks when you are an employee. However, I personally would like to try other areas as well, not just be in house. But to be able to branch out you would need to build a network of good contacts and you can do so here, as well as have a stable good job.
The Culture
Majority of interns where very social and some from other departments would arrange events designed for us. I can definitely say I have friends for life now. The only thing I noticed was the dominance of female interns as oppose to it being slightly more or equal to Male interns.
I tried to live if walking distance to work. If you share a house it would be much affordable, but I choose a studio which is similar +/- to studio prices in Student accommodations, with everything included. But you can always live further away, pay less for rent but more in transport.
I did not participate much in the nightlife in my area but there seems to be a lot of bars around and many nice places by the river as well.
There was a few opportunities in my case, but generally speaking you would be probably involved in at least one or team activities for a charitable cause, or a social reason like Christmas.
