The Role
I enjoyed the whole experience of working full time in a global company. I made good friends with all of the other interns which made my experience more positive. However, I feel my job role itself was a slight dissapointment.
I did feel valued by my team, I would frequently be asked to complete tasks and we were always invited to the team social activities. Due to the team being mostly remote, I did not get the opportunity to connect with all members of the team.
My EPM has been a huge support system during my placement and had given me a lot of opportunity throughout my year. I do feel I lacked support from my manager but I always felt I could reach out to the wider team if I needed guidance.
My actual job was very quiet and there was often periods of boredem. Since the job role is based around deals, if there were no current deals there was no work. Luckily, we are given the opportunity to complete other projects during my placement year which kept me busy.
When we were busy I was given a lot more responsibility. I was given the opportunity to go out and meet clients and was assigned more tasks.
I would say I have developed a lot of skills this year including time management, communication and leadership. I have also been given a valuable insight into working for a global company which I am confident will help me in the future.
The Company
The atmosphere was okay. There would be busy periods and quiet periods as most people would work from home. It was much better when there were HR Community Meetings and the attendence would spike. The office is very split and I would say there is a lack of cohesion.
The internship was well organised. The induction was useful and we were sent a lot of information to help. One thing I think it lacked was help in finding housing. The 3 , 6, 9 and 12 month reviews were always useful in reflecting on our development. There was also intern social events which I enjoyed attending
Most of the personal training a development was left down to you. The online learning platform is a great tool to use but you complete it in our own time. My team were very proactive in organising training days but there was a lack of this for interns as a whole.

The future employement prospects are very high. I have decided not to persue a career in HR after my experience this year but I am hoping to secure a place within IBMs Consultancy business unit which has a high intake every year. The career prospects in HR are low. As current interns, we are fast tracked in the process and given a lot of guidance in the application process.
The Culture
The social scene was good. I made some great friends this year which was made easier due to the smaller numbers of interns in Portsmouth where I was based. Most of us lived together in houses so we were a close group and would go out on weekends or for birthdays etc. There are intern social events which interns organise like a christmas party which were very fun.
Cost of living in portsmouth was low.
Portsmouth being a student town has a good night life but you are restricted to mostly bars (which are good) and a couple of clubs.
There is not many activities outside of work but this did not bother me much.
