    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed my placement a lot. Disney is a very fun and social company to work for and the people in my team were fun and easy to talk to. Disney offers opportunities like screenings of new films and other perks and the work itself was enjoyable. It has been a very enjoyable year.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My team was incredibly supportive and kind and patient, they taught me a lot and my role did not feel like busy work but was actually useful and productive to the team. I felt very valued by the team and they went out of their way to make me feel that way.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Although initially I did feel slightly thrown in at the deep end I never felt unsupported and I knew i could always ask for help if I needed it. There was always someone around to ask questions and if I did something wrong my manager offered guidance and advice which helped me develop my skills a lot.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Due to my role being largely based around helping others if they did not have much work to do it often left me with very little. At times I did find myself being slightly bored during my placement year but when my manager noticed this I was set an additional side project to work on which made a big difference.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I'd say I was given quite a lot of responsibility and I was definitely trusted with the work I was given. None of my work felt like busy work and I was assigned certain tasks to be responsible for each week. This helped me feel like I was a worthwhile member of the team.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learned a lot about communication, task management and prioritisation while on placement year which I think will largely help me in the future. I also developed a much stronger work ethic which along with self-confidence I would say are the most important things I learned. I additionally was offered the opportunity to improve on skills in which I doubted myself such as presenting to large groups.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere was very sociable, friendly and enjoyable. Disney constantly has fun events to celebrate things such as Mickey's Birthday, film releases, Star Wars Day etc as well as free screenings of new releases. My floor was full of people who were very easy to talk to and approachable.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • My role was changed quite a lot before I started which meant when I first started I wasn't really sure where I fit in the team or my responsibilities which I found quite hard, eventually everything fell in to place and I worked out what was required of me during my placement but it was not completely seamless to begin with.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Disney offers many opportunities for personal development which I was very grateful to make the most of. For international women's day they hosted a whole week's worth of talks with women in industry to attend which I found incredibly inspiring. They also offered some other voluntary training courses such as first aid.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    Travel loan

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I know that many people working on my team were previously interns who had been hired back later therefore I feel future employment prospects are possible within the organisation. I think this would be an interesting opportunity as it is such a great and fun company for whom to work.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was initially a facebook page set up to help interns meet each other and groups of interns all started on the same day which helped us to get to know each other well. We also had a Winter Intern Ball which was a great opportunity to get to know more people.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived at home with my mum during this placement year and commuted to work, I found the commute to be expensive and socialising after work as well was also not cheap as it is in central london. a lot of local businesses do offer discount in the local area though which helps.

    1/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Since it is located in central London the nightlife is amazing and there was always someone around who wanted to go out. We had many fun nights out and team drinks which was really helpful in making friends at work and feeling a part of the team. Plenty of bars and clubs locally however they were quite expensive.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were plenty of out of work opportunities especially involving sports and exercise. Disney has a triathlon team, many football teams as well as several organisations such as the green team, women at disney and more. While at Disney I was part of a yoga group which was really great
