    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • On the first day I was a bit nervous as I am not sure what is expected. But throughout the week I have to say I really enjoy it so much. It is a very valuable experience and it gives you exposure to the energy industry and what BP does.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I feel absolutely valued and cared by the HR team. They are caring about us all the time and make sure we get the most out of the week. If we ask if we could speak to someone in a specific field, they normally will find someone for us and we will have the opportunity to speak to them.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I feel very supported and they give clear instructions on what we should do each day. We were required to do a small presentation and we do received a session of skill training for that. I never feel lost throughout the week.(just a bit lost in the building as every room looks the same)

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • It helps me gain a deep insight into the commodity trading industry, which is something I've never learned about at university. It expands my knowledge and opens up more opportunity for me. The things I've learned from this week may not be necessarily helpful for my degree. But it should be extremely useful if I want to do commodity trading in the future.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • It is very well structured and we were given a clear timetable on the first day. First few days are pretty much about the introduction to different divisions in BP IST and there are some soft skill training sessions as well. There is one technical interview on the last day.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • It was super nice and friendly. I remembered that one I went to the HR to ask if there are shops in the office for me to buy something. She directed me a way for me. After that session, she even came to me to ask if I've found the things I am looking for or not. They are really very caring and warm.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I would say that the firm really invests a lot of time and money on the developments on its employees. We have quite a few of soft skill training sessions and interview training which can all be beneficial to us in terms of our future job application or our studies at university.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • By talking to the employees and the grads, you can really get a sense of what the culture of the firm is like and what it is like to work their. I would say the atmosphere is just so friendly and welcoming and that appeals a lot to me indeed.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • We were paid, our accommodation is included, our food is included and our travel expense is reimbursed. They really don't have to do that but the HR team really did their best to give us the best experience throughout this week. I really appreciate their work and the emphasis they place on us.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • 5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • 5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • 5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I would definitely recommend this insight week to anyone who are unsure of their career path. I am studying finance related subjects at university so the energy industry is not something that I am familiar with. But during this week you can really learn so much from them and that will help a lot.
