The Role
I absolutely loved working at L'Oréal. Not only are you given a huge amount of responsibility as an intern you are truly treated like a full time employee. Working in Supply Chain I really felt like a big part of the team. I was supported hugely but also asked for advice and assistance and this made me feel great!
This couldn't be anymore true! I felt so valued by all the people I worked close with. They would ask me for advice all the time and this made me feel like part of the team. I would say the biggest positive from my placement would be this and having a voice in the company even though I was an intern.
The support system and the protocol they put in place for support is great. Not only do I get support from my manager on a daily/ hourly basis I also get support form the wider team. I worked in supply chain I received support from commercial, demand planning, launch planning. The mentality here at L'Oréal of helping anyone and everyone when they need it is great.
I would definitely say because you are given so much responsibility on day 1 you do get very busy. Sometimes it was overwhelmingly however having the support of my team you can learn so much and learn how to prioritise and focus on one thing at a time. Without being so busy I would have never of learnt that and I think that this is such an important thing in life.
From day 1 you are given so much responsibility. In my role I was completely in charge of all Superdrug's and Savers orders for L'Oréal CPD! And that was just one of my jobs. A an intern in L'Oréal you are fully trusted and this made me feel motivated to do well as I knew a lot was on the line if I didn't work hard.
This placement year has taught me what the real world is like. It has taken me out of that university/ education bubble and given me skills for life. It has helped me to prioritise and realise what is important/ what can be done quickly and easily. This will definitely help me going into final year!
The Company
The atmosphere in the office is great. It is very free. Although you can work the hours that please you, you know that you have to work and put the hours in. Another great thing about L'Oréal is that you can work wherever you want. You are free to work form home, café and this definitely kept me motivated.
As interns make up a lot of L'Oréal UKI the protocol and systems that are put in place for us are great. You have training sessions that will help you through life, you are constantly monitored and assessed by internship reviews and you have presentations and meetings to keep you inspired.
At Loreal you are always encouraged to learn and grown. There is a website called 'mylearning' where you can book onto 'Life-Learning' sessions and this is strongly recommended. I went on one called 'Dealing with Change' and it was great. There were also Excel training sessions and presentation skill building which were also great and I will definitely take those learnings back with me to university.

Working from home
I am applying for the graduate scheme and really would love to get it. The prospect of working here when I am older is absolutely brilliant. Working in the beauty industry and changing women and men's lives around the world is my end goal and working for the biggest cosmetics business is the perfect way to get started.
The Culture
Although there was not many we did have intern social nights out. They were subsidised by the company and we did go to some cool places in London. They really brought us together and was great for socialising in a work environment. I have made some life time friends through this!
Everyone will know that London is very very expensive and the cost of living and socialising is high. I was lucky enough to live at home for my placement year but I know from others that rent prices as well as the cost of living was difficult. However L'Oréal were good at supporting this with subsidised food and social events.
The nightlife in London is fab. The city never sleeps. However the only bad thing about it is that it is so expensive and if you do not know some promotor in a club or book well in advance then there is no chance! You cannot just have a random and spontaneous night out.
In London there are so may things that you can get involved in. L'Oréal even set up a Hammersmith netball team and they would practice every week and play matches. As I live in London already with my family I already had some activities from years ago but if I was new and new to the city it would be easy to find something you liked.
