About You
I really like the spring week internship at JP morgan, because I had the opportunity to meet people from the company, communicate with them giving me tips for the future. I also had work shadowing, so I saw how actually an employee works there on a very simple day at work.
Since it was just a spring week, we didn't get in depth in the company. We just had some coding challenges where my teammates and I helped each other to find a solution to the challenge. I believe that I was an active person in my team providing ideas that give us solutions to the problems.
We had a great guidance during the whole spring week, because every employee of the company that did a presentation, he saved at least 10 minutes at the end for any questions. In addition, our "supervisor" in the coding challenge was really polite and helpful in any question we made.
This whole week made me start thinking differently about my career in the future. It helped me to develop leadership skill, always to collaborate with the other people in the team and be more patient in difficult situations. Moreover, after the spring week, I think I have made some decisions in what courses I am going to take in the following years of my degree.
The Company
The spring week was very well structured because at the first day we got a detailed schedule about the hole week and we followed strictly that schedule. In more details we had a variety of presentations some work shadowing, some coding challenges and a few ice breaking games to meet the our colleagues.
The general atmosphere during the whole week was great. We meet so many people that was very polite and helpful in answering questions. Every single person I believe was honest with us, always willing to give you examples about everything you ask and last but not least it wasn't stressful at all.
In only a spring week internship the firm cannot really invest on you a lot. The only things that the firm can see about you is at some challenges or tasks, how you communicate and collaborate with your colleagues for giving you the opportunity for a place for the next summer internship.
We had some work shadowing where we had the opportunity to see the actual stand up of the employees in the firm, how every day communicate about the tasks they have to complete in the following two weeks. We also see how an individual employee have to structure the tasks and ask some questions if he struggle in some parts of the task
We meet with some seniors, students that are going to do the summer internships this year and other employees in lunch or events.
The content of the day was incredible since we had the opportunity to learn so many new things that we didn't see before in our lives. We passed through different tasks so we had the opportunity to see variety of places that made be interest in working in the future.
Everything Else
The firm paid for my train tickets.
We had almost every single day the opportunity to see something new. For example one day we meet some people that they are doing a placement there. Also, on another day we had networking lunch with the seniors that they are working in the firm. last, we meet with employees and other student that are going to do the summer internship this year in the firm.
They were perfect because we had the opportunity to meet people for different roles in the firm.
Some of the employees are doing charity activities as part of the work and also in their free time.
I absolutely recommend the spring week to students to get the experience of how actually is the working environment, meet new people and communicate with them. In addition, is a great opportunity for students to get extra internships to see what part of the firm they are interested in for further placements.
