The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship at Hays as a recruitment consultant. During my placement, I have been responsible for a huge variety of projects and processes. I have enjoyed my experience here to such a level that I have extended for a further month. A truly recommendable placement to anyone interested in sales/ recruitment.
I feel very valued by my team, when I have had particularly successful months, I have been taken out to lunch and rewarded for my efforts by my manager and director. I have become very comfortable being around them for 8 hours a day, going out for drinks and spending evenings with them.
In this placement you have a formal training course named module 1. Which provides you with some fantastic sales training. As well as this, you are provided with additional training sessions every week, as well as constant tips and advice from the wealth of knowledge around you. You are supported throughout.
I tend to busy everyday. The brilliant thing about this job is that you are as busy as you make yourself. The harder you work, the busier you become, resulting in making money = the ultimate goal. I have had to work late on multiple occasions, but this has been something I have chosen to do.
In a team of two, when my manager was away I would be running the desk. With this comes with speaking to clients, candidates, and being completely responsible for how the desk is run. Even when my manager was here, you are ultimately responsible for winning and maintain your own clients.
The skills I have learnt in this role are unparalleled to what I have received in school or University. I have learnt how to talk to very senior people comfortably and create a bond with them. As well as this, how to behave in an office environment, working alongside and interacting with directors of a FTSE 250 business everyday.
The Company
Atmosphere was loud, interactive and motivating. You are surrounded by people talking to others over the phone, it is an environment where you go over and speak to someone rather than email. As a sales business, it is a very sales focused environment, with peoples fees on boards around the office.
I am very tempted to return to the business after I finish my degree. I will explore other avenues first, but I doubt I will be able to find somewhere which could provide me with the platform that hays can help you build from. A good company, with a brilliant culture.
The Culture
Intern and associates events are common and allow you to interact with people from across the business. Every Friday the floors mix so you can get to know others from across the business I have made friendships here I am sure will be maintained even when I am back at uni.
The cost of living and socializing is extremely expensive. You are based right in the city of London so I am not sure what else you would expect. Be ready for £6 pints. It is hard to live off your wage without help from student loan or an outside source.
You're in the Centre of London. The city is buzzing from Wednesday - Friday, and the pubs are packed every week. I couldn't ask to be closer to a pub or a club, they are so close. Multiple spaces close to watch midweek sport. You are also near lots of restaurants.
