The Role
I working in Finance for Disney Channels and it's been a great year! The team is great and really supportive. You get given a lot of responsiblity from day 1 and learn so much - both technical and soft skills. There's so many opportunities to take initiative and push yourself out of your comfort zone.
Felt very valued by the colleagues I worked with over the past year. Especially once I became more confident in my role, I was able to lead meetings with key stakeholders and this made me feel very valued. In fact, some senior managers said they felt that it was almost as if I was an actual analyst at the company, which meant a lot!
I had regular meetings with my supervisor/Senior Analyst I worked with, to discuss what my strengths and weaknesses were. She was very supportive in helping me to grow and develop my skills.
This varied depending on the time of the Financial/Fiscal Year. During quarter close and forecast, it's pretty busy with regional submissions and accounting deadlines. However in between these periods, it can get quiet and it's hard to find work to do. This was more so the case when I first started, but once I picked up more skills and more responsibilities, there was always something for me to do even during the quieter times.
I was given a lot of responsibility from day 1. My key responsibility was working with the Marketing teams on their budget during the Fiscal Year. This can be quite daunting at first as when you think about it, you're dealing with large amounts of money even though it's simply numbers on an Excel spreadsheet! But I had plenty of support in the beginning from both my supervisor and line manager to help me gain confidence. I also had a great handover from the previous intern to give me a basic understanding of what to expect over the year.
I definitely have developed a lot of skills which will be useful in life and my future career. With regard to degree studies, I guess it's helped me to get into a daily routine and being organised etc. so I hope to continue this when I go back to uni.
The Company
Amazing! The atmosphere is really friendly and everywhere you look there's something Disney/Marvel/ABC TV Show themed! My team and the wider team are great, we do regular team events/lunches which helps bring the team closer together to get to know each other etc.
It was a bit hectic in the handover week as it coincided with a busy period, but it was still well organised by the previous intern and supervisor. Rest of the year has been well organised, no faults.
I got the opportunity to partake in a Mock assessment process for a grad role which is done in partnership with Handle Recruitment. This was a great opportunity and process to tailor my CV, prepare me for the process etc. In terms of technical skills and course however, it's more about you taking initiative and find out about them yourself and putting yourself down for them.

Unfortunately, there are no grad roles/programme at Disney. I feel that once I've done a grad role/completed qualifications I may be able to come back to Disney, provided the contacts/people I have worked with are still at Disney!
The Culture
Great scene amongst colleagues and teams. In terms of interns, it was okay but not amazing. Only had one Wintern ball in the year, could do with more events to bring interns together.
It's London, so it's expensive of course. I lived at home and commuted so I saved money but socialising is definitely expensive.
Great! Good choice of clubs and pubs and other activities for those who don't drink.
Voluntears provided great opportunities to volunteer both during and outside work hours.
