The Role
To the extent where I would want to stay on after university. I thoroughly enjoyed working for Hays as I feel I worked well in a high pressure environment which have helped me develop key skills for when I finish university. I have enjoyed working with the people at Hays and will keep in contact with them after I finish my placement.
Whilst on placement I was invited to all the work nights out, Christmas party's and won non fee earner of the month on one occasion. I also got picked to be our regional director's (North West) reverse mentor. I also felt like my work was valued by colleagues and management.
We complete 3 days in the Birmingham office of intense but enjoyable training, which really helps with the recruitment position. We also have a week of training in our own office with other new starters. Once we begin we also receive excellent on the job training by management and colleagues.
Whilst constantly being busy, I felt the balance was just right as I felt like I was contributing to the business. It is very much a 'work hard play hard' environment which is very much suited to me. As I was busy most of the time this has helped me with time management skills.
I feel like I was given just enough responsibility which has increased step by step throughout my placement. I was responsible for filling many jobs, ensuring temp workers were paid on time and providing an excellent level of customer service to new and existing clients whilst representing the brand of Hays.
They will help me in my studies as my time management skills will have improved dramatically. I have also built up knowledge in a variety of industries which will make me more aware of the working world. I feel like I have become more aware of job roles that I didn't even know existed before my placement.
The Company
Whilst it being a difficult and challenging job. The office atmosphere was really fun, every success was celebrated and we had an excellent social atmosphere in which everybody was included. Examples of this are a monthly 'wrap up' which was essentially an office party followed by drinks afterwards in Manchester city centre.
It was really well set up. We had quarterly intern meetings with management to assess how we were getting on. The training we were put through as well was really well organised and really helped with the role once we had started, we also had a weeks training in our office which was very beneficial.
They invested a lot of time and money into our training. They paid for all the interns to travel down to Birmingham for a week during working hours to develop our skills in recruitment, even after this we had plenty of training and refresher courses on systems and working with clients and candidates.
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
At Hays, there is a very clear path to promotion whilst I have been here there have been many colleagues that have been promoted. As it is a sales environment, it is very financially appealing to work at Hays due to many people within the business making a lot of money.
The Culture
There was many placement year students at Hays in the North West. We had quarterly social nights out planned and funded by Hays which helped us keep in touch throughout the placement year, it was good to make new friends who were in the same job role as my self.
Manchester is an affordable city to live in, this gave me the chance to socialise and attend many work events as I had the financial capability to do so. There was such a good social scene in Manchester and I was never short of things to do whilst on placement year.
It was really good, there are so many good places to go out. There is Spinningfields, the Northern Quarter, Ancoats and Deansgate. All of which are within walking distance of each other. I live in the city centre which made it easier to go out at night. This was helped by the amount of Universities in the city which added to the nightlife.
There were many activities we can attend. This included Yoga, Football, corporate gym memberships and walks. Hays are also putting on a trip to the Lake District in the summer for a team building weekend away. I played 5 a side every week after work which helped me get to know my colleagues more.
