About You
I thoroughly enjoyed the insight week as I felt that it helped me gain a deeper understanding of the Firm and the industry through a comprehensive range of activities.
Over the course of the week, we were constantly being encouraged to share our opinions on a variety of topics which gave rise to many insightful discussions, and I felt that we were valued highly as potential Firm analysts through our interactions with everyone at the Firm.
There was a training session on the first day of the insight which provided an overview of investment banking and some basic tips to aid us in our project. Throughout the rest of the week, the HR team was always open for us whenever we had any enquiries, and the analysts were also very helpful in answering our queries pertaining to the Firm and industry.
The skills and information I acquired during the week were more relevant to the work that was required at the Firm, nonetheless, there were some basic foundational knowledge that tied into my degree.
The Company
The insight week was very well structured with every aspect of the programme designed for spring interns to better understand various parts of the Firm.
A very friendly and collegial environment that encourages exchange of ideas. The spring interns were very motivated to learn and the employees were extremely willing to share more about their experiences at the Firm. In addition, the mix of educational sessions and social activities also provided a good balance for the week.
From the training session on investment banking on the first day to the sharing sessions by various employees of the Firm, it was apparent that the Firm invested a huge amount of resources to ensure we could learn as much as possible, and I felt that the quality of our presentations on the last day really showed how much knowledge we gained over the past week.
The two work shadowing opportunities were definitely the highlight of the week - by speaking to junior and senior level employees in different areas of the Firm on their work experiences, I was able to better understand the type of work and working culture at the Firm not just in the short-term but also for the long-term.
The insight week provided a great insight into the company culture. This was achieved through opportunities to meet people from various areas of the Firm, be it through networking sessions, informational sessions, etc. and to interact with employees from junior to senior level also helped to provide a more holistic view of the Firm.
The content was highly centred around investment banking, and it did provide a comprehensive insight into a career in investment banking by informing us about the type of work expected, working hours, career progression, etc., and coupled with the opportunity to speak to current employees of the Firm, the whole experience was truly unique in its approach to giving me an insight into this career path.
Everything Else
We were reimbursed the cost of our lunch on the days that lunch was not provided.
There were many networking opportunities that were part of the programme itself such as a lunch session with analysts and a tea session with directors. On top of that, many employees were also happy to meet us personally out of office hours to answer our queries and clarify our doubts.
On the first day, the spring intern class had a post-event after the day's schedule which helped us get to know others in a more informal setting. Throughout the course of the week, there were various networking opportunities in the form of lunch and tea sessions as well where we interacted with junior and senior employees of the Firm.
There were a wide range of activities that employees can get involved in outside of work, and one of the main activities that I personally found very meaningful was Rothschild & Co's emphasis on giving back to the community through its various programmes - be it providing pro-bono advisory or mentoring disadvantaged students.
Yes I would definitely recommend this insight to a friend who is interested to learn more about Rothschild & Co and the investment banking industry as it is a well-structured programme that provided a fantastic experience.
