The Role
Overall great year. I learnt a huge amount throughout the year, on a variety of things- not just what was involved in my role. It took a while to get settled, due to the size and different business units, but that would be the same in every large company.
Although some of the roles I have done are admin style, I was style considered a full employee, not just a temporary employee. The same resources are put into you, to help you succeed.
Working with my line manager everyday, I was given a lot of support. Then had my Early Professional Manager as a second line of support, however I did not get to see this manager a large amount, so the guidance was limited.
Very busy, there was always something to do, no matter how small or large the role. And if there would be a quieter day, there were always ways to find other jobs to do to keep busy.
Responsibility is gained throughout the year, the more you earn it, the more you are given.
You have access to a huge amount of education, which is very useful going forward and in your degree. This education is not always IBM biased, which is helpful going forward.
The Company
Worked in a quiet office so there wasn't always a lot going on. But this means you get to know better the people around you, and makes you have more of a presence in the community
Very organsied- 2 day induction, planned reviews throughout the year, and a large team there to sort any issues with your placement.
There is a lot of training online to take part in. Not necessarily physical training courses, but material is there if you want to develop your skills.
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
The company takes on a large number of graduates, so it gives you hope of a chance to get a further career there.
The Culture
Due to being in quiet office, there was not a huge social scene, but if you are in a busier office I suspect there would be.
Reasonable costs, not London pricing but not cheap. It is in a nice, developed area making things slightly more expensive.
Some clubs and pubs in the local area. We are located near a university, so there are places targeted at students.
Not a huge amount, but if you wanted to organize them, you could. People will always get involved if you arrange things.
