    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I absolutely loved the entirety of my placement year. The amount of responsibility I was provided with extended my initial expectations and the variety of tasks I was given made the overall experience invaluable. When opportunities for additional or spontaneous tasks came up I was always enabled to get as much experience as possible and broaden my skillset through new tasks.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues made me feel very appreciated and valued. The initial welcome was very warm and I instantly felt like a part of the team. Everyone continues to be incredibly helpful and always there for you if you need them. The individual contribution to the team is always acknowledged and the team members make going to work a very gratifying experience.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • While I was able to work self-sufficiently throughout the year, both my manager and supervisor made sure I knew I could always come to them for advice or if I was unsure about anything. On top of the regular team meetings I had weekly meetings with my manager/supervisor to discuss anything important and to make sure we were always aware of what the other was working on at the time.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The amount of work I had on a daily basis varied quite significantly throughout the year due to ad hoc tasks related to special events or circumstances within the company. However, it was possible to space out the regular tasks accordingly and make sure the work load was neither too much or too little. It required time-management skills but was never impossible.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The amount of responsibility as well as variety of tasks extended my initial expectations and I was positively surprised. I was able to work on and assist with tasks that were presentated on very senior level. Especially during very busy times throughout the year I was given the opportunities to assist other members of the team on work that would go beyond my regular job level.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • After almost 12 months of work I am more confident and comforable within skills I already had before, including administrative skills, as well as skills that are specific to my degree (Media Production). Additional skills include getting to know and work with software and applications which are used across the entire industry sector which I want to return to in the future. My expanded skillset is therefore directly supporting my future employment chances. The insight which I received into the industry sector is also immediately influencing my future career path choices.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere within the office was very warm and welcoming. In addition to the teams consisting of incredibly friendly and sociable people that made sure work was always fun, the office itself contributed to the atmosphere positively. There was no strict dress code in my department and the the interior and personal decorations made for a very comfortable work environment.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The organisation made sure that the transition of taking over from the previous intern was a smooth process despite having a rather short handover period. Throughout the year I always had the support I needed and the it was made possible for me to look into other teams and departments and the way they work, which was incredibly interesting and beneficial.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The amount and variety of training programmes and online courses that are available to all employees are so vast that it would be impossible to take advantage of everything that you have access to. The courses range from online courses in any topic area to in person training e.g. in team work exercises or First Aid training.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Working from home

    Travel loan

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • While I do not have an offer yet I would love to return to the company after finishing my education. Considering how large, internationally represented and diverse in business-areas the company is, I would like to get an insight into other lines of business and international offices within the company in the future.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Both the group of placement students as well as other colleagues were very sociable and outgoing and made working as well as spending time with them outside of the office a great experience. Social events including several different teams were always great fun. I personally spent more time with my immediate team instead of other placement students.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I decided to commute from outside of London, so this barely applies to me. However, the area is fairly expensive.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There are nice pubs and bars (including a karaoke bar) but I barely took advantage of the Nightlife options due to my commute.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were lots of opportunities for volunteering opportunities both during and outside of working hours. On top of that there were other events including music, art or sports.
