The Role
I have enjoyed my role. As in any internship my level of responsibility was not as high as of a full-time employee, however I got exposure to many people an functions.
My colleagues valued my work and were constantly asking for my help. My views and ideas were taken on board.
I have had enough guidance from my management and team members. I used to have a weekly catch-up with my manager to discuss my workload and tasks I needed to complete. I did not feel micromanaged.
The workload varies from week to week and day to day even. If I found myself having more spare time in my first half of the placement, second half has been very busy. I would recommend to spend the time on eLearning in the first half of the year.
I had ownership of tasks. I have working with data and therefore accuracy is key, however I have been given responsibility and trusted in completing this tasks. Have been covering for my superior colleagues during their time off.
I have developed Excel skills that can be used in my degree. I have acquire an Agile and Design Thinking badges which can be carried on in my future roles.
The Company
The atmosphere is overall good amongst the intern group. However, I did struggle with fact that our team was not given a designated workspace in the Southbank. I was sitting with other teams and therefore the office sometime could feel over full.
The Foundation has organised very well the placement. We had contact with our Early Professionals Manager throughout the year. I believe that there could be organised more days/events that would bring the interns together. For example a CSR day would be beneficial.
I had one day of Inductions, as I started at a later date. I did have access to a lot of eLearning and online resources to develop. However, I did not attend any in class training or more personalised training.
Above 25 days holiday
Working from home
The graduate scheme and the full-time positions are various and in different parts of the business. From the people I have met, all of them mentioned that the prospects are great and the work is rewarding.
The Culture
We used to go every Thursday to drinks after work. We have organised a Christmas Party with interns on a boat on the Thames. Interns have been very friendly and nice.
London is very expensive. Rent, travel and other costs.
London is great for nightlife and partying. However it is not very applicable for me, I much rather enjoy restaurants and bars, which are everywhere in the area I worked in.
I did get involved in a couple of activities on top of my role, however I had to chose those careful so that it won't interfere with my role. I wish there were more activities available.
