    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Overall, my placement at Hays has been very enjoyable. I enjoy running my own business and see my desk grow to be profitable.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I have been given free rein to build my own desk (business) within the umbrella of the compliance desk within the Hays Financial Markets team. I have billed my manager over £50k of fees which should increase by the end of the year. I have also helped to increase the candidate and client base of the wider team.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Hays provides very thorough basic training which provides a solid base of knowledge around recruitment. The senior members of staff within the team have helped build my knowledge specific to the financial markets and what is the best way to go about gaining business.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It ranges from day to day - some days will be very busy when a new role comes in but other days I it can be very calm if it is just BAU work that is going on.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given as much responsibility as I wanted. I carried out all my own work with very little supervision from my manager except for an overview of my business. However, there were certain tasks that I chose not to take responsibility for such as closing more senior deals as I did not want to jeopardise the fee.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The corporate skills I learned such as people management, time management, dealing with high stress situations and conducting meetings will help my in my wider career. The recruitment side of my role will very likely not be used again in my career.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Due to the sales nature of the role, the office is very noisy and upbeat - this is promoted by management. It can also be quite a stressful place if there is a deal going through. Once I got used to the nature of the office it is a good environment to work within.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • In general, my placement has been very well organised. Each interns placement is managed by their line manager so, although the general overview is the same, it is up to the line manager to decide the fine print.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The generic sales training given to me by the wider Hays group was very informative and was based around general recruitment. The further training given to me by the senior members of staff in my team was of greater help. This training was focused on how to conduct business in my specific area - Financial Markets

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Travel loan

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing considering the directors in my office all started working for Hays straight off the bat showing good career progression within the company. If you are good at your job, it does not take very long to be promoted .

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Maybe not between the wider team of interns but there was a good social scene within my team.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living is high but then the centre of London is very expensive.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The social life is good being the centre of London but expensive. The are plenty of really nice places to have a drink after work.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Hays runs a variety of sports clubs before work as well as putting on events such as football matches and charity boxing matches.

    4/5
