    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have really enjoyed my placement at Hays. From the offset I was given responsibility which enabled me to feel like I am really contributing to the companies success. A placement at Hays isn't your typical internship where you make tea and coffee for your colleagues, it a role where you are given the same responsibilities and expectations as a general employee.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued by my colleagues. I worked very closely with a number of colleagues and I had excellent working relationships. I felt like my work I did for them was very valuable and helpful. Outside of the office we would also all go for drinks and socialize together.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given great support by my manager. Whenever I had a question or problem she would spend time with me to get to the bottom of it. Whenever I asked her for more work or more opportunities she would act upon this immediately and made everything possible for me.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was extremely busy on a daily basis but I saw this as a positive thing as the days would go quickly and I felt engaged. There are some parts when you are over capacity with work but I liked the challenge to get the work completed. An internship in recruitment is always going to be fast paced and busy.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • As mentioned previously, I was given the same responsibility as a normal employee. This was great because it made me feel as if I was contributing the same amount of value to the business as my colleagues. In turn this motivated me further to work hard, succeed and become a better recruiter.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The training I received and the skills I have developed will help me study hard in my final year of uni and will provide me with essential skills for the rest of my career. For example, I have become much more commercially aware which will be helpful throughout my career. I have also learnt to manage my time more effectively which will help me become a more efficient reviser in my final year of uni.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office was a hard working office. Heads down all day but the minute work finished it was all fun and games. The term 'work hard, play hard' definitely applied here. The office environment was very friendly and there was plenty of coffee, tea and milk supplies all day long

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement was very well organized. 20 interns joined the day I did and we were all in our correct teams following an introductionary presentation. We would have monthly intern catch ups where all the interns would gather to have a meeting with the MD. This happened every month at the same time.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company invested a lot in me in relation to training. In the first few weeks I was attending mini coaching sessions on a daily basis. About 6 weeks in I attended a 3 day training programme which covered everything I do in my job. Since then I have had continuous coaching sessions.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 2/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I think my future employment prospects are good. They have extended my internship for another 2 months (14 months now in total) due to my high performance and dedication. At this stage recruitment could be an option I explore further when I graduate, which may be with Hays, who knows.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes there was. Intern events were set up and ran by the company. The summer party and Christmas party were organized and ran by the business. Both of which interns were invited to. As mentioned previously I would have social drinks with my colleagues on a Friday too which was fun.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Relatively expensive as the office is located in the middle of the city!

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Good! Many bars and clubs around

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
