The Role
The time on my placement has been excellent and couldn't have hoped for anything better as you do worry before starting whether the job will be something you enjoy. MY work colleagues have made it a year to remember and I've even managed to extend my stay until I return to university.
I am very much a valued member of the jeopardy management team and have been since the first few weeks of training. Now I have developed and gained a greater understanding of the role I am in the position to offer advice and take on further responsibilities where required.
You are given responsibility straight away and I had many questions. My manager and colleagues were extremely helpful in ensuring I gained understanding of why we do certain things and answered any queries I had. I felt more than comfortable straight away.
My job had busier and quieter periods with it being phone-based. There was a great balance as there were plenty of job-related tasks to be doing when the phones were quiet and I found time flew by on a daily basis.
Within a few weeks of training I was given my own area to look after (Manchester) where I was responsible for all the schedules of technicians (60+) who worked in the area fitting smart meters. The job is fairly routine day to day with similar tasks occurring however these are essential to ensuring smooth running of the operation and correct outcome of the day.
I feel I was lucky to find a placement which suited me and which I have enjoyed so much. This year has showed me what its like to work full time in a professional environment where your decisions really do matter to a lot of people and skills I will use in my future career.
The Company
I got on very well with my colleagues and have made some friends for life. I am local to the Kingswinford office where I was based and have lived around the area my whole life which helped me to fit in straight away. The atmosphere was relaxed which really helped throughout some of the busy periods day to day.
I never had any issue since my application right the way through to starting the job and eventually leaving. Undergraduate days were well organised and I never had a problem when travelling into the East mids offices.
Due to the role I was in; training was very much limited to the beginning of my placement however I was offered opportunities to develop elsewhere occasionally.

At the minute for my placement year it's seemingly in the balance. We have been told there is no graduate opportunities running for 2020 however could change; this is due to the unstable energy market conditions. Despite this, I have made some great contacts in the office and will definitely look for any openings at EON afteruniversity.
The Culture
I was the only placement student in the Kingswinford office so it is difficult for me to comment on this question. I attended undergraduate days but due to travel constraints up to Nottingham etc. these were the only times I met with fellow placement students
I have lived in Birmingham all my life so understood the local economy etc. I managed to live on my own which has been affordable and a great experience and I knowing the local area helped with socialising etc.
Big city close by and plenty places to head out to.
My working day was 7:30-3:30 so gave me plenty time for extra activities after work but in terms of
