The Role
I loved it, it confirmed my interest in engineering and has helped me choose what options I want to do in third year.
They treated me like a normal worker with actual responsibility. I had tasks and was accountable for their completion. Outside of work they were just as welcoming in terms of events and general friendship.
Weekly meetings with my placement supervisor (boss) were penned in to track my progress. It was very useful to be able to see what was expected as I progressed in the year.
It came in waves where I was busy as jobs were required but there were also things for me to get on with when I was quiet in the main job roels.
I was given projects to organise by myself and roles to fulfill. however, if I ever needed help or didnt feel comfortable, help was always there.
It helped me know what I needed and what I didn't in my studies and has informed my module choices for my future years. helped a lot with soft skills too like emails and phones.
The Company
It was brilliant as while working people were talking which made the days go a lot faster and meant work was fun while being productive.
When I arrived the manger had projects in place for me that I could get started with. The university visited but only once. The company was definitely ready for me and I felt like they were trying to get as much out of me as I was out of them.
I was supplied with company inductions, proper training for equipment like cranes and there were talks of Chartership help in the future. Very good on that fornt.

It's a year long job interview and I will be definitely finish applying for a job with them after university. I love the job there and the business looks to have good development and progression opportunities.
The Culture
I was with other placement students who I regularly met up with. Furthermore, the colleagues were just as social with the occasional curry night or few drinks.
The rent was expensive where I lived but the house was lovely and the landlord was great. It was a choice. But if Id have looked more I doubt it would've been too bad. Socialising wasnt too expensive, not at all like london.
Nightlife was good as for me the people make the night. Good links to bigger cities though if a class night out is your thing.
Loads. I went to the gym and cycling, helped fix cars, went for a stop over in a city with the work guys.
