The Role
My placement year at IBM was amazing! I made new friends, developed a wide network, improved my skills and just had an overall great time!
My team was always very supportive of me and my goals. They made sure I felt like part of the team and had enough responsabilities. They were always very keen on providing feedback on my work, where they also gave me tips to improve my skills. They were just amazing.
During the placement at IBM we have 2 managers. One is your task manager, who works directly with you; and tehre's your EPM, who deals with anything specific to your placement, such as your reviews. Both of my managers were fantastic and supported me throughout my time at IBM. They were also very helpful with any questions I had regarding my career plans, skills, and other things I wanted to do outside of my specific role at IBM.
During this year I learned more than I could have ever expected and the skills I acquired here will help me immensely during my final year at university. Being this writing reports, finance, data analysis, designing engaging presentations, public speaking or just overall industry knowledge; these are skills I'll be able to apply to most of my modules next year
The Company
I worked in a client account that had a very strong team culture. We did many socials throughout the year, including sports, drinks, games, etc. But IBM in gereral is a very sociable place - being located in the Southbank centre also helps, as there's always something fun to do around teh office after work. There are also regular social and networking events across the company.
Very organised! We are assigned a placement manager (EPM) that you can go talk to about any concerns you might have about the placement. There are reviews after 3, 6 and 12 months with your EPM and task manager (although there can be another one after 9 months if requested). There are over 200 interns in the UK every year so tehre a very clear structure to your placement and you are evaluated on very clear dimensions throughout.
IBM has a tool called 'Your Learning', where you can take part in online training courses about any topic of your choosing. This is very helpul as it gives you the opportunity to leave the placement with added certifications that you can include on your LinkedIn. You are also encouraged to take part in face-to-face training in the UK and abroad.

The Culture
The area around Southbank (Waterloo, Covent Garden, etc.) is quite expensive.
There are loads of pubs and bars around the office.
