The Role
I had a very good year at IBM. I was on a team of 4 other placement students who I would work closely with everyday. I was always learning on the job which meant my role was always interesting.
I was required to provide day to day operational support to members of the sales team and senior leadership team - This meant I was essential for the business operating smoothly and i was a regular point of call for people who needed help. Good team collaboration
IBM has a very effective support system. My manager would help me set goals and answer questions I has regarding the role. I also had a Early Professional Manager that would help me support me on a more pastoral level, and conduct 3,6,9 and 12 month reviews with me.
At the start of the year when my role wasn't very busy there was always loads of education to do. And through giveback and projects there is always extra stuff to get involved with. Some times I had loads of work to do, but I was a great opportunity to practice my organisational skills.
I was required to host calls with senior clients, preparing the content for these calls, but with any job its about building the trust first. Once I had done that I was able to send content to clients without review.
My organisation and communication skills have been developed greatly during my year, and I will be able to use these skills next year during my studies
The Company
My office had about 130 placement students so the social was really good. The area of the business which I worked in also had lots of graduates which helped the office dynamic.
We were given a 2 day induction prior to the start so we could get all set up so we could hit the ground running when we arrived. There is loads of support and 'how-to's' to help with any questions you have
There is lots of personal development that you can do with lots of opportunity to learn about subjects that interest you. IBM has badges that are recognised by lots of big companies.

Very appealing - The graduate program offers a very competitive salary and award winning training. Would be very happy to get a job back there
The Culture
Yes - Was one of the the highlights of the year. With regular social events for over 100 placement students over a variety of offices
London is very expensive but if you go to the student bars you can get cheaper drinks. Lots of the bars around work offered 10% discount for IBM employees.
Very good - Lots of graduates made the atmosphere feel much younger.
The giveback opportunities are endless. I was also on the IBM football team
