The Role
Overall my placement year has been very informative and enjoyable, I worked within Physical Logistics and Project Management. Over the year I got a lot of projects to work on, which all varied in terms of their focus and this gave me a good opportunity to understand the physical logistics from different perspectives.
As from day one, all my colleagues were very supportive and kind. Due to the fact that half of the office works on shift, since it is a very operational environment, it took quite a while for me to get to know everyone. However after a couple months, I was really settled in and I knew what everyone in the department was responsible for and they were a aware of my areas of support.
The management was very supportive, I had a weekly 1:1 with my line manager where I was able to discuss my current project status and other work i was busy with. Furthermore this time allowed me to communicate my experiences and get a deeper understanding of the business from my line managers point of view.
On a daily basis, my days were usually quite balanced. Certains days were very busy due to topic issues and others were quiter. Overall a good balance.
During my placement year I was given full responsibility of my own project and the way I completed these projects. Further I also supported with other people's projects and daily tasks.
I have gather very valuable experiences that have allowed me to connect the theory learned at university to the practical side of it at BMW.
