The Role
The work I did was very rewarding and was impactful. I felt that I was contributing something of value while gaining a lot of experience.
My work was acknowledged by multiple senior stakeholders in the project. The work I did onsite was value.
My manager valued independence and left me to work independently as a result.
My schedule business depended heavily on the status of my main project. However I felt that more often than not I had a good balance of work to do.
I was the project lead for my main project and at points had a direct report.
The skills I gained while on placement are invaluable and I don't think I would have got them otherwise
The Company
My team had a great environment. There was a good balance between professionalism and banter. I always felt comfortable in my office and supported when I need it. As with any place, there are times when the mood is low like when there are big deadlines approaching. However, more often than not the mood was good and I enjoyed working with my colleagues.
From my perspective, everything was very well set-up. The company has been taking on placement students for years so there is a good structure and flow to the placement from end to end.
I have had several opportunities to attend various training courses and sessions with the company that both help me on the job and in the future. If I wanted to try something new or develop certain skills, all I had to do was ask and generally was able to get the experience I was after.

Working from home
The grad scheme is an amazing prospect as you're able to cover multiple sites across the duration of the scheme. Direct entry is also a viable option especially if you build a strong network.
The Culture
There are enough people that are up for a night out to make going out multiple times a week possible.
The cost of living was fairly high in terms of rent and utilities as the area was a more affluent area. There are options to get a cheaper shop and pint. There was very little to do in terms of activities as the area was not very lively. Socialising was done more in London or at home.
The nightlife is pretty quiet, there are about 2 or 3 good pubs and no good night clubs in the town. The pubs that were open didn't really have a young crowd and were expensive for what you get. Having people come over or going elsewhere were better than going out in the town.
There were a lot of opportunities to do charity work and promoting STEM careers while on the clock.
