Assembly Planning Intern Review

I enjoyed my placement year. It gave me an opportunity to put myself out of my comfort zone and learn a variety of new skills. At times however, the workload was low and I found myself looking for jobs to do. This gave me an opportunity to engage in jobs that I was interested in.

I got on very well with my immediate colleagues and I was very swiftly accepted as a member of the team. Sometimes I was given jobs that seemed to be a waste of time but this was not very often and the majority of the time they encouraged me to take on new challenges.

My manager set up a 1:1 every week to track my progress. I appreciated this a lot as he didnt have much time, so I didnt see him much apat from these times. Everyone in my office was very helpful and willing to lend their time if i needed assistance.

My workload varied a lot between being very busy and not busy at all. It felt like the company werent sure of what they wanted me to do, and I had to actively look for jobs. I would have preferred if there was a more structured work programme for interns and specific projects that we could work on.

I played a role on a very critical project that was coming up. This was a one off and most of my projects were of low importance, but i did benefit from them. Whenever I wanted a more important role I was generall given it although there is only so much responsiibility you can expect on an internship.

I significantly improved my time management and task management skills. I also improved my interpersonal skills. I did very little techincal work if any so I was dissapointed not to build on that. I was also able to build up my knowledge of software which will be very usful in the future.

Everyone was extremely friendly and a lot of fun. They were professional when they needed to be but also very relaxed when they could be. I was very happy being in that office and the people were a real highlight of my experience. We all worked hard but also enjoyed ourselves while doing it.

Very poor. Interns start and it feels like the company is not sure what to do with them. There is no structure to the year and it is simply having us there to support the planners. The people were extremely friendly and helpful but it felt like they were trying to give you work as opposed to needing you there. This is not a criticism of the people but the overall structure.

Not much investment from the company. One person in particular invested a lot into me but this was due to luck in meeting him so if he hadnt been there then there would have been none. At no point did i feel like they looked at me as a potential future employee.

Not at all. It seems that interns have no chance whatsoever to join the company fulltime, and the internship feels like it is simply a scheme to obtain cheap labour for the year as opposed to building people up which is a shame as we are all university students who could really add something to the company if given the chance.

There is about 120 interns here and a fantastic social scene. This is arranged completely by the interns, but there was socials every week and the chance to meet interns from all across the world. There is also a great opportunity to work with fellow interns on a host of different projects.

Oxford is evry expensive and you basically spend half of your paycheck on rent and bills leaving very little disposable income. If you limit yourself to the basic neccesities you can get by with enough money to have a night out but in general it is very expensive to live in.

Fantastic. There is a large number of bars and lots of young people around due to the unversities. There is also festivals in the summer time and public pools and lakes to visit. There isnt many nightclubs but the ones that are there are not bad but very expensive aswell.

There was football every week as well as socials every week. There was also a few office parties at bars as well as a christmas dinner which was very fun. We also played golf between the two departments and held a tournament. The social life outside the office was excellent.
