Insight Day Review

I really enjoyed the insight day and greatly appreciate all the effort that was made by the Manchester team and Alicja. I travelled from Glasgow for the event and was unsure of what to expect from the day, I now feel much more confident about the recruitment process and feel sure that BDO is the company I want to undertake training with to become a Chartered Accountant.

Friendly welcome by the staff at reception made me feel at ease and excited about the rest of the day.

All staff were really friendly and had a brilliant attitude. Their perspective of being a trainee and life at the firm is what made me sure that I want to pursue a career at BDO.

I gained a real insight on what is means to be an accountant, this allowed me to pinpoint the skills I already have and also the skills I need to develop moving forward.

The insight day ran smoothly.

We were given information on what to expect moving forward; both in terms of the recruitment process and life as a trainee.

We were shown videos during a presentation as well as speaking to members of the Tax and Audit team to gain a true insight on what life is like at BDO.

I started to grasp the company culture as soon as I walked through the door at 10 am, we were told more about the company culture during the presentation as well as from staff.

I 100% want to put forward an application for BDO following the insight day, I really hope I am successful.

I would have liked to have been reimbursed but unfortunately this was not an option. This tripped ended up a little more expensive as I would have liked; I paid for return train tickets as well as accommodation. On my way home unfortunately my mobile phone was stolen out of my pocket which only added to the cost. However, I do not mind not being reimbursed as the experience I gained from the insight day on 29/05/19 was invaluable.

We met trainees, assistant managers and new recruits - this was a really lovely mix as it allowed us to hear from a range of different experience levels. The message from everyone was more or less the same - BDO is a lovely place to work. One of the main things that stuck with me is the level of responsibility and support that trainees receive from day 1, this is really what has made me want to apply for a trainee role.

We were told about the different social events such as '1st Friday of the month', along with annual events that include whole departments. Fun at work is really important to the overall culture of BDO, these sorts of events allow for colleagues to form great working relationships. There are also opportunities for trainees from other offices to network and get to know each other.

I would recommend this insight day to anyone that would like to pursue a career in accounting or financial services.
