The Role
I rather enjoyed it as it was different to what I expected The experiences I had were more than I expected such as being involved in fundraising and being included in impactful meetings. Furthermore, the ability to shadow departments and further learn about the company made my time at travelport enjoyable
My colleagues made me feel included and part of the team from the beginning. Luckily in my team, there are a couple grads who I could relate with as they were also new. As well as this, my team featured members of different experience levels so it was a better spread of knowledge
My managers and allocated mentor were always available to me if I needed them. Most of my required support/guidance was either about some of the work I was doing or about my career options. Furthermore, my allocated mentor was available if I needed them and they gave me guidance on general issues if I asked for them.
Busy periods were rather busy but most of the time, it was an easy to handle amount of busyness. As my role is seasonal, I'd be busy at some points of the year and not at all at other parts. The good thing about the difference in busyness is the down time allows for focus on non-work related things like the CSR fundraising
I was treated like a regular employee with as much responsibility as would be given to a regular employee who is at my level or similar. I would be expected to fulfill my duties in due time or raise an issue if that seemed unlikely. The responsibility entrusted in me was great.
I think the skills I picked up during my time here such as knowledge of business jargon/communication and improving my use of Microsoft Excel. These skills will help me in my degree as some of my final year modules require these capabilities as well as a future role requiring my ability in this
The Company
The atmosphere was friendly until most recently. it then became more of an uncertain atmosphere. The uncertainty is to be expected with the changes at the company However overall, the atmosphere was alright, seemed good most of the time so nothing worth slating it about.
Very well organised The placement set up has been going on for a few years and it's evident that the management are accustomed to having interns amongst the employees Lots of things for interns to get involved in if they wish to do so
Well invested overall We had sessions run by the HR department giving us improvements on soft skills and things to think about during our time here
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
I guess they are decent Possibly better if you wish to settle down, I wouldn't recommend a recently qualified/graduated person to join as there are better places but would be good for a long, settled career
The Culture
yes the network of fellow interns give a good social scene if you wish to get involved
Not sure as I did not live in Slough but I guess it's pretty standard to being close to london
