    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my placement at JJV. It was a great experience and has given me a real insight into what a marketing job would be like. It was never boring admin, i was working as part of the team and felt like my input was important.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I really felt like part of the team in my placement year. I wasn't treated like an intern, i was responsible for my own projects with the flexibility to suggest new ideas and brief them in. My opinion was really valued in meetings and never did i feel like i couldn't input.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given really good support from my manager, it was a great balance of not being micro managed but also having support if i was confused/unsure.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It was a real mix. On the day-to-day i tended to be averagely busy, but sometimes when there were many projects i'd find myself stressed and working longer hours. Alternatively, some times when there weren't many projects for me, i was quite bored at my desk especially at the beginning (which is understandable). It was a good level, i never felt overwhelmed with too much and knew i could reach out to my manager if i was stressed. The worst thing is having nothing to do!

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I wasn't treated like a placement at all. I was managing my own projects with my own deadlines. I took part in professional conferences and running my own meetings. I loved the responsibility as the marketing work i was completing was actually being used and i was able to see the outcome.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I've learnt to manage my days better, planning and being more organised which will definitely help with my last year of studying - you get into a routine. My confidence has also grown a lot, having to present and run my own training will help me with my final year at university.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office was fun. My team were great and everyone is lovely. Company culture is a big thing at JJV, there were a lot of events throughout the year, either charity, company, things like mindfulness so everyone is generally happy. It's a flexible company so many do work from home on days sometimes making it quiet but none the less there was always someone in the team.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Being in a marketing role, i'd say you don't really have any set day-to-day tasks like a finance role would get. This makes it more exciting as i'd work very closely with my manager just supporting on the content she was developing and develop / edit my own. It would've been nice to have some sessions with other interns in the other branches (consumer, medical) to get an insight into their roles.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I didn't experience as additional training's throughout my placement. Would've been good to have some key skills like digital capability training available.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Financial Bonus

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Working from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • There are no graduate jobs in my sector. There's marketing roles but due to the reorg, it seems everyone is unsure how many there will be. J&J as a company are good to work for.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes there was but this was due to us creating it. There weren't any events put on by J&J.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Normal

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Quite a few clubs in reading.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Some sport clubs and charity events.

    4/5
