    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • +/ I enjoyed much of the work, especially it's challenging nature. The colleagues were fantastic to work with (for the most part). Opportunities to pursue different routes was well received. -/ Some difficult colleague relationships.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • +/ Many colleagues made a genuine effort to value my contributions and I had the opportunity to forge my own value through recognition of my hard work. -/ One particular hellish colleague relationship and was sometimes treated differently (not in a good way) because you were an undergraduate.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • +/ Excellent line management and matrix management, very very impressed with much of the leadership at VWFS.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Worked on project work, inherently varied in work volume and complexity. Thus had insanely busy periods punctuated by complete loss of tasks/ work load, to average all that out I had a manageable year in terms of workload.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • As much as can be expected at this level. Some very high profile tasks and responsibilities were present but the majority was lower level responsibility tasks.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Huge variety of skills developed, mostly due to the flexibility of VWFS to allow you to branch out and try different things if you want to. It is what it is and it is what you make of it but I personally believe VWFS is a good environment in which to learn as much as you want.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Fun isn't really top of the agenda at VWFS. That being said, management made genuine efforts to be inclusive and get the team together regularly which stopped it being too boring in terms of atmosphere.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Organisational planning was strong, however adaptability to changing circumstances and providing structure in that uncertainty was left wanting. Overall good.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Many beneficial training courses, rare that I ever had a 'no' when I wanted to branch out and try something new. Professionally qualified in project management with VWFS picking up the tab, which I am very grateful for.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Company Car

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

    Working from home

    Healthcare/Dental

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Personally wouldn't accept a grad scheme here myself, as I have already done a placement, but I would advise anyone else offered it to accept it. Good company to work for, broad range of departments with good internal mobility of labour. I'd definitely work here after a couple of years gaining experience elsewhere.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Students- Strong as there was 27 undergraduates and we often organised events together. Colleagues- is what you make of it but for me not great, age profile is much older for colleagues and minimal efforts by the company to bring colleagues together socially. Can be quite lonely.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The south isn't cheap, especially for myself as a proud northerner. You can afford to live and have fun but count your pennies for Friday night, rinse and repeat. Could be worse, could be London!

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Slightly above average, excellent choice of bars and pubs, really poor choice of nightclubs. So overall, really good for evening drinks but don't expect anything special after 1am.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Good opportunities if you seek them out and put yourself out there. 3 peak challenge and tough mudders ect. Not much beyond this however.

    4/5
