    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Working at GSK has been an amazing experience that has greatly influenced the career path I want to take after university. As well as experiencing life as an industrial microbiologist, I have also had the opportunity to train others, work on validation projects and provide assistance during audits.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Despite being a placement student, I was made to feel like a real member of the team and was given similar responsibilities to other GSK employees. This made my time at GSK worthwhile as I learned a lot about the challenges and successes associated with working in the pharmaceutical industry.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given a lot of support and guidance, however, this was something I had to ask for due to the busy and fast paced working environment. The training I recieved was always extremely thorougher and I was never signed off until I felt comfortable enough to complete the task.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The days varied depending on the requirements of the lab. Some days were extremely busy and this is when time management and organisational skills were really tested. Despite the variability, there was always tasks to be completed and teams that required assistance.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • At the start I wasn't given much responsibility, however, as I grew in confidence and became familiar with the ways of working, I gained and asked for more responsibility.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The people and technical skills I developed during my placement year will greatly assist me in my future career as I would like to return to the pharmaceutical industry. Despite the sometimes stressful and challenging times, I am grateful for every experience I encountered during my time at GSK.

  • The atmosphere was mostly happy and everyone was willing to help which contributed to a friendly feel.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Due to changes in the company and movement of teams within the department, the placement year never had a set structure but always had an overall general plan.
