The Role
Thoroughly enjoyed my time at GSK, the company have an extremely open door policy with opportunities to engage with individuals at all levels of seniority. The opportunities to shadow and gain experience in other areas of were vast. It is great to work for a company with global scope as you have the opportunity to interface with those from varied nationalities
Very strongly. Team members make huge efforts to embed you within the team and this is reflected through the level of responsibility you are given. I believe it does take time to get to this stage, however, that tends to be the case in new situations where individuals are not aware of your capabilities. Where you do a good job it is definitely noticed.
It is very much having to find your own feet and guiding your own development. The structure on the scheme is not as well thought out as other placements, however, if you are driven and willing to push for certain experience and projects people are very open and willing to help - not only your manager but those around the company.
Fairly busy however it comes in cycles depending on your projects and how much you demonstrate to the team you are willing to learn and take on challenging activities. In times where you do have quiet periods I advise to reach out to colleagues and look to shadow other areas of interest.
Lots of responsibility even in areas where you have very little knowledge, however this is the best way to learn as it allows you to make mistakes so that you learn for next time. I think in some areas you could be given more responsibility if the company had more of a structured scheme and it was gained incrementally.
Very strongly, I have learned basic office etiquette and ways to communicate with a diverse range of people globally. The experience on the job has been invaluable to my development, whereas online trainings provided were of very little help and lacked engagement. My co-hort also did not receive any formal training which was a disadvantage
The Company
Everyone is very welcoming and happy to support in any areas you need help/want to explore. I would encourage to network with as many people as possible over coffee to help make contacts around the office. There are a lot of socials events organised as departments which is good to attend
Not well organised at all. It is very much about driving your on development, I think changes are being made to improve the scheme but there is not rigid structure in place so it is very much what you make of it. Strongly feel like this also depends on function you are put in as some are some are not.
Little training throughout year, majority online trainings so not very engaging - there should be more formal trainings available. Again if you are willing to accelerate these the options are available you just have to be confident and drive these opportunities. Take on extra learnings outside of your team also.

Working from home
Very appealing as a company, they offer may perks and are a very flexible employer. Once concern is the structure however, especially for graduate schemes. Again changes and improvements are being made here. Ability to rotate around roles in graduate scheme is very attractive and direct entry routes also common
The Culture
Yes, huge number of socials and events to meet IPs from all other sites. Huge intake also so lots of people to meet. There is an end of year ball also which is great to say a farewell and stay in contact with those throughout the year.
Very expensive and you are on London minimum wage. Would recommend to consider this depending on lifestyle you want when living down in london
No nightlife, you have to go into central or close by areas which have a number of bars - this was fine and easy to get around/didn't stop people socialising.
Loads of extracurricular activities and charities to volunteer with. Great company for this. You can also get opportunities to have key roles in organising certain events like this.
