The Role
Really enjoyed my placement, had the choice of extending my placement into summer. I have been given all the support I have required and I have been given loads of responsibilities. I get on with everyone I have met in J N Bentley. If you don't know how to do something they don't mind you asking as many questions until you understand it.
I am given a lot of praise by my line manager and other people on site. HR emailed me at the start of my placement and a few months down the line to check everything is going alright. 6 months into the placement, I had an appraisal with my line manager where it is highly encouraged to give praise. J N Bentley really value their staff and their placement students.
I felt able to ask anyone anything at any time if I didn't understand anything. I always felt like I could ask the same question as many times until I understood everything. J N Bentley do not expect you to do anything that you are not comfortable doing especially if you cant do it safely.
I have been quite busy from the start of my placement with it getting steadily more busy however it has been the right work balance. I am rarely bored working at J N Bentley there is always something different going on each day leaving little room to be bored. I learn something new most days.
At the start, not much. Being new on a construction site, it is crucial that you understand the health and safety regulations etc. Once I understood the H + S on site, I was given a lot more responsibilities enabling me to develop as a person and as a part of the site management team.
I have developed loads of skills whilst working for J N Bentley. I have really improved my communication skills with people at all levels of the company and external people. My confidence has improved a lot and I believe I am a lot more employable. I have received in house training with J N Bentley and I have received external training as well. I would really recommend doing a placement with J N Bentley
The Company
The atmosphere in the office on site is a great atmosphere to get work done. It can be a good laugh at times when appropriate. It is quite relaxed which allows you to get on with your work and makes it as enjoyable as possible. J N Bentley is a good place to work.
The placement at J N Bentley was very organised. Everything was ready and waiting for me to start. I went to the inductions on the first day and everything was prepared for me to travel to site and meet my line manager after the induction. After then the placement has been organised well to develop my skills.
J N Bentley invested a lot into my training and development. Not only in training but in time to. I have been on a lot of training courses and I have also spent a lot of time working on site to develop as a placement student. I believe the overall goal of placements at J N Bentley is to find people that they would potentially employ after placements.

Very appealing, I hope that I will be offered a job at J N Bentley's after my final year at university. It has been mentioned but not set in stone as of yet. They have mentioned about sponsorship too. It would be great to work for J N Bentley after university.
The Culture
It was quite good, there is a WhatsApp and Yammer group for placement students to talk and to organise socials. It is quite hard for socials to be organised due to placement students being all over the country and not sharing an office. Most placement students in my area work on different sites that could potentially be 3hrs away.
I lived at home with my parents so the cost of living for me was very cheap and the local area is relatively cheap for socialising. J N Bentley try to put you on a job as close to where you live depending on what projects are happening close to you.
I have worked in multiple different construction sites and therefore have not been out in the local areas. I do not spend much time in the office and therefore have not been out locally. However, going out in Birmingham and Worcester is a very good night out and Birmingham is relatively close to the office..
J N Bentley have site vs office team sports days and different matches against each other. There are also other activities such as charitable events, different competitions and even lunchtime classes (e.g yoga). There are different activities for everyone to get involved in, the office I work in have a Bhangra African night.
